    The Assistant Teacher’s Role

    The Assistant Teacher role may teach a select number of courses and/or sub for an existing teacher. The position allows you to learn the BASIS Charter School model and program, including many aspects of the school, and prepares you for full time classroom teaching or other roles.

    Assistant Teachers have a visible presence in all areas of school life, assist with issues or tasks relating to the well-being of our students, and join their colleagues in maintaining a strong, positive, achievement-oriented school culture.

    The EL Coordinator will provide targeted language instruction and academic support to English Learners (EL) while ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. This role dedicates most of time to direct services for EL students. At times, this position will also overseeing administrative responsibilities, including Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) meetings and state testing processes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    EL Services and Instruction

    1. Small Group Interventions

    Provide differentiated small group instruction to EL students focusing on language development and academic support.Develop targeted lesson plans based on students' language proficiency levels and academic needs.

    2. Language Instruction

    Implement language development strategies using research-based programs aligned with EL students' proficiency levels.Focus on improving listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.

    3. Push-in Support in Core Classrooms

    Collaborate with core content teachers to integrate language support into daily lessons.Provide in-class support during instruction to scaffold learning for EL students.Co-plan with general education teachers to ensure language and academic objectives are met.

    4. Progress Monitoring and Assessment

    Track and document student progress using formative and summative assessments.Adjust instructional strategies based on ongoing data analysis and student outcomes.Communicate student progress with teachers and families, ensuring transparency and collaboration.

    LPAC and State Testing Oversight

    1. LPAC Meetings

    Conduct LPAC meetings to determine appropriate placement and accommodations for EL students.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations regarding EL identification, monitoring, and exit procedures.

    2. State Testing Coordination

    Oversee the administration of Texas state assessments for EL students, ensuring proper accommodations are in place.Collaborate with testing coordinators and teachers to manage logistics and compliance for state testing.Provide training and support to staff on testing accommodations and procedures.

    Qualifications:

    Must have valid Texas teaching certificate with ESL Supplemental certificate.Proven experience in providing language instruction to EL students.Knowledge of LPAC procedures and state testing requirements for EL students.Strong collaboration and communication skills.

    Desired Skills:

    Experience with small group instruction and push-in models of support.Ability to analyze data and make instructional decisions based on student needs.Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and best practices in EL instruction.

    The role of the Special Education Teacher is to work directly with students to identify and fulfill needed educational services and supports as part of a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). Special Education Teacher participates in IEP meetings and provides support to the general education teachers regarding classroom interventions, student accommodations, modifications, and special education requirements.

    Required Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.Valid Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card and/or satisfactory applicable state background check, current special education certificate valid in relevant jurisdiction, CPR and First Aid.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in special education; Master’s degree in special education or related subject matter.1+ year(s) special education experience.Certifications: CPI or TACT-2.

    Primary Job Responsibilities

    Work with students with disabilities in small group settings or 1:1 setting.Interact directly with assigned students to fulfill IEP requirements.Fulfill required provisions in student plans, including service minutes, by providing specially designed instruction and facilitating other supports and/or related services.Provide instructional interventions and academic support to individual students or small groups.Providing case management services for students with disabilities, including coordination of IEP team meetings, parent communication, program development, special education service provision, individualized education plan implementation.Ensure compliance with all state and federal special education requirements.Facilitate IEP meetings.Collaborate and assist general education teachers in implementing IEP requirements for their students to ensure the availability of a FAPE.Collect and maintain documentation associated with IEP and ensure confidentiality and integrity of student records and progress information:Collection of student data from classroom teachers and providers for upcoming IEP meetings.Collect data and report progress on annual IEP goals.Prepare and report accurate and timely data for internal and external regulatory purposes.Develop a working knowledge and understanding of general education curriculum to adapt the content appropriately to deliver specially designed instruction to eligible students with disabilities.May need to perform CPI or TACT-2 certified restraint or seclusion as school designee.Regular communication and coordination with related service providers to schedule student services, schedule IEP meetings.Oversee day to day tasks of the ESS Assistant(s) and/or Special Education SpecialistProctor individual or small group testing for state, district, or alternate assessmentsOther duties as assigned.
