    Role Summary:
    As a founding Fuel Cell Engineer, you will be a key member of a team developing hydrogen fuel cell stacks and systems with high power-to-weight ratios and high efficiency. You will help translate concepts into working hardware—building, integrating, and controlling stacks across balance-of-plant components. Your technical knowledge of electrochemical systems will be critical to delivering next-generation performance.

    You will work closely with vendors to evaluate and integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components, while also contributing to the development of new solutions where needed. Your work will directly influence how our systems are deployed across defense, public safety, and commercial sectors.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    Evaluate membrane electrode assemblies, bipolar plates, gas diffusion layers, and sealingBuild and test laboratory single cells and short stacks.Maintain the development laboratory and equipment to produce reliable and quality test data.Develop and maintain data acquisition systems for fuel cell systems data.Evaluate COTS systems components.Support manufacturing efforts in factory acceptance testing and quality.Analytical analysis, including optical and scanning electron microscopy.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    Required:

    A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrochemical or Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience working with electrochemical systems (e.g., fuel cells, electrolyzers, batteries, or similar)Proven accomplishments in the development of electrochemical systems.Understanding of how to use design, modeling and control strategies to translate the attributes of electrochemical materials to system level performance.Ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with a range of engineering, controls, and manufacturing disciplines.Ability to travel between sites in Virginia and to vendor sites in the US and abroad, as required.Ability to obtain a DOD Secret clearance. Must be a "U.S. Person" (citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) per ITAR/EAR requirements.

    Preferred:

    Working knowledge of electrochemical methods, such as impedance spectroscopy, and analytical tools, such as scanning electron microscopy.Use of machine learning for the analysis of test results.Experience with lithium ion batteries and/or water electrolyzers.

    Physical Requirements:

Asegurará que las operaciones en las centrales generatrices se ejecuten de acuerdo con las regulaciones ambientales estatales y federales, supervisando al personal técnico y coordinando los trabajos de campo necesarios para mantener el cumplimiento ambiental continuo en estas áreas, así como la preparación de reportes requeridos y manejo de auditorías de las agencias reguladoras.

    Funciones del puesto:

    Supervisa y coordina las actividades de mantenimiento en sistemas de tratamiento de agua, canales de descargas, tuberías de combustibles, almacenamiento de sustancias y áreas de terreno impactado. Dirige inspecciones rutinarias a sistemas de descarga, drenaje pluvial y equipos asociados a permisos NPDES, asegurando la operatividad y cumplimiento. Supervisa y garantiza el mantenimiento adecuado del área de almacenamiento de desperdicios peligrosos y no peligrosos, verificando etiquetado, contención y disposición según reglamentación. Coordina, lidera y supervisa la limpieza de derrames, disposición de material impactado y remediaciones ambientales en coordinación con contratistas y personal interno. Evalúa y prioriza trabajos de mantenimiento ambiental, asegurando el uso adecuado de recursos y el cumplimiento con cronogramas establecidos. Supervisa que todas las áreas asignadas, equipos y herramientas estén limpias y cumplan con los estándares de seguridad y medioambiente. Colabora con el área de Cumplimiento Ambiental en la implementación de planes de acción relacionados con el manejo de agua y terrenos. Participa, prepara y canaliza adecuadamente la documentación para auditorías ambientales internas y externas, atendiendo requerimientos, inspecciones y recomendaciones correctivas. Verifica y se asegura que se lleve puntualmente la ejecución de muestreos y pruebas ambientales (agua residual, suelo, aceites, etc.), validando la conformidad con límites regulatorios. Documenta e informa eventos ambientales, desviaciones y mantenimientos relevantes, asegurando trazabilidad para efectos de reportes regulatorios (NPDES, CWA, RCRA, UST, etc.). Mantiene comunicación constante con el personal de cumplimiento ambiental y seguridad para asegurar acciones alineadas con los permisos ambientales. Supervisa al personal técnico asignado al mantenimiento ambiental, estableciendo prioridades diarias, evaluando desempeño y asegurando su capacitación continua en temas ambientales. Coordina, supervisa y maneja las órdenes de trabajo y facturas de tareas de mantenimiento ambiental realizados por contratistas externos. Coordina reuniones de seguridad y cumplimiento ambiental con el equipo de trabajo.
