    Maintains and fuels all para-transit vehicles in conjunction with para-transit operations center.     About First Student's Mechanic Position:

    At First Student, our technicians perform maintenance to ensure our fleet of newer vehicles is safe for road travel. They also use their diagnostic skills to troubleshoot issues needing repair work.
    As a technician at First Student, your day will include the tasks mentioned above and the following:

    Performing maintenance on brakes, suspensions, drivetrains, & transmissions

    Completing work orders

    Assisting with mobile emergency services

    About First Student's Mechanic Position

    At First Student, our technicians perform maintenance to ensure our fleet of newer vehicles is safe for road travel. They also use their diagnostic skills to troubleshoot issues needing repair work. As a technician at First Student, your day will include the tasks mentioned above and the following:

    What You'll Do:

    Collaborate with Regional and Location Safety Directors, Location Managers, and Maintenance Managers to develop and deploy safety provisions within budget and guidance

    Identify underperforming locations and work with location teams to analyze and implement continuous safety improvements

    Lead comprehensive incident investigations and ensure corrective actions and lessons learned are communicated and executed

    Share best practices and innovative problem-solving strategies across locations

    Support claims management and litigation processes in coordination with Risk Management and workers' compensation administrators

    Oversee driver trainer staffing levels and support driver onboarding efforts

    Assist locations in determining appropriate remedial actions for safety events and review disciplinary actions with HR and Operations

    Monitor location compliance with safety policies, regulations, and training standards

    Prepare and present monthly safety performance reports and analysis to Area General Managers and senior leadership

    Conduct safety wellness checks and audits at locations, with more frequent reviews at high-risk sites

    Lead and support safety training programs for new and existing staff, including Regional Train-the-Trainer workshops

    Utilize safety and operational technology tools such as Focus, Zonar, and Safety Care database to assess and improve safety performance

    Travel extensively (up to 80%) to locations within assigned area

    What You Bring:

    Minimum of 7 years of safety or transportation experience

    At least 5 years of fleet transportation management experience

    Strong commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement

    Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and team-building skills

    Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other operational software

    Advanced technology skills with safety and operational management tools

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

    Ability to analyze data, perform root cause analyses, and train others effectively

    Ability to work independently and in team settings in a fast-paced environment

    Required certifications: OSHA 10-hour, Collision Investigation training, Smith System Defensive Driving Instructor certification, and State/Provincial Instructor Certification in at least one state within the region
