These procedures are also linked with the specifications required for the assemblies to operate within the correct parameters when integrated. The Production Engineer (PE) is responsible for the in-depth knowledge assembly process, tooling required, and the qualification process.Introduce new products into production in an existing “Concurrent Engineering” environment. The Production Engineer is in the unique position of having and in-depth understanding of the assembly and qualification process, as well has having the engineering background to liaise with the designers to understand the design implications of performance, cost, material, or otherwise.Generate and maintain MRP controls of module production. Material Requirements Planning is a production planning, scheduling, and inventory control system used to manage manufacturing processes. The Production engineer is responsible for assisting with this process by defining the Cycle Times (how long it takes to build a module) as well as defining the detailed assembly sequence.Evaluate and optimize process flow. The Production Engineer is tasked with improving the assembly sequence in such a way that reduces the time and/or cost of a given subassembly, either through process improvements, tooling design, or other means necessary to improve the manufacturing process.Support production issues with concise troubleshooting of the Electro-Mechanical systems and sub systems.Evaluate and disposition failed parts with proposed solutions. The Production Engineer is responsible to analyzing parts which did not meet their functional requirements, and is responsible for following up with the correct paperwork used to provide feedback to the relevant parties.Review Failure Analysis Reports from suppliers and help validate the root-cause of the failure. Since the PE has an in-depth knowledge of the assemblies they are responsible for, they possess the knowledge to assist with our suppliers of our parts as to why they did not meet their functional requirements.Review mechanical drawings to assess manufacturability of new designs. This requirement is filled with an engineer with a mechanical engineering background and the ability to interpret geometrical dimensions and tolerancing, as well as extensive manufacturing background to assess whether a part is capable of being assembled within reasonable cost and cycle time limits.Evaluate test results from RGA (Residual Gas Analysis) equipment to determine if the parts, assemblies, or modules meet molecular contamination requirements. RGA is a specialized test performed to ensure the cleanliness of our modules from a molecular/chemical perspective.Create and direct equipment calibration, upkeep, and new equipment specification and procurement for all analytical instruments used in manufacturing. In many projects, the PE is responsible for making sure that the correct equipment is selected based on the functional test requirements, and is also responsible for the acquisition process of this equipment (creating the business case, working with management and financial department to secure funds, acquiring quotations, etc). The PE is also tasked with ensuring that the equipment is loaded into our calibration database for regular maintenance.Education and experienceBachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)3 years of Manufacturing Engineering with strong mechanical background.2+ years experience in a Manufacturing Engineering environment.2+ years experience with vacuum systems– mechanical aptitude a plus.Exposure to complicated assembly experience preferred.Working knowledge of Unigraphics, NX, Teamcenter, and SAP a plus.Working knowledge of interferometry (PMI), geometric optics, wave optics, and aberration theory preferred.Working knowledge of Matlab highly preferred.Working knowledge of best practices for opto-mechanical design and testing,including glass to metal epoxy bonding, high precision assembly, and optical defect inspection.Familiarity of interferometric measurement process and data analysis.Able to read and understand optical and mechanical drawings.Knowledge of Design of Experiments and Statistical Methods.Working knowledge of using and programming CMM machines highly preferred.SkillsWorking at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that.
