Performs the role of organ back table specialist providing support to the clinical team during the surgical recovery including, but not limited to, maintaining sterility during operating room procedures, following guidelines of UNOS for sterile and non-sterile packaging of organs the recovery of organs for the purposes of research.Assists with post-mortem care and final closure.Collaborates with the Donor Services Center staff to facilitate communication regarding organ recovery and placement.Collaborates with the facilities team to ensure adequate par levels for supplies.Participates in maintenance activities for Infinite Legacy recovery suite.Performs biopsies as requested.Participates in SurgiSLUSH creation.Participates in research studies when appropriate, which enhances or improves the donation process.Serves as a representative of Infinite Legacy when recoveries are off-site.     General Job Summary:Under the general direction of the Regional Clinical Manager, Family Services – Tissue, the Aftercare Associate (AA) will support families experiencing grief and loss in the Infinite Legacy Donor Services Area (DSA). The Infinite Legacy’s Aftercare Associate will provide psychoeducational grief support services to the family members of Infinite Legacy donors, donors in spirit, and families of potential donors. The Aftercare Associate is to remain aware and sensitive to diversity of all kinds (cultural, religious, educational, etc.) while working with families.The Aftercare Associate will co-lead workshops with the Aftercare Coordinator, to directly serve donor families, donor in spirit families and community members. The Aftercare Associate will support the needs of the Family Services Department and Community Outreach Department as it relates to family relationships, public health and needs of the community. The Aftercare Associate will seek opportunities to partner with community organizations, churches, schools, hospitals, and funeral homes to provide community-based services that are accessible to residents of the Infinite Legacy’s DSA, with a focus on services to minority and marginalized communities.The AA position will ensure supplies are ordered and updated; maintain a record of expenses.     Duties/Responsibilities:Under the direction of the on-call Team Leader, participate in the recovery of split thickness and full thickness skin grafts as well as corneal tissue as needed from the surgical prep to reconstruction of a deceased donor using established aseptic technique in an operating room or similar environment.Maintains an on-call schedule of a minimum of fifteen 24-hour call shifts per month. Additional shifts will be required if the department is short staffed and will be compensated per the guidelines established in the employee handbook or approved by organization leadership.Ensure necessary recovery/reconstruction supplies and equipment are prepared and ready foruse, including preparation and transport of instruments and other supplies for sterilization.Perform as a professional representative of the organization when recoveries are off-site. Responsibilities for this position include allocation of Infinite Legacy staff to complete clinical activities and direct communication with Infinite Legacy staff, local and non-local surgical teams, and hospital representatives in a timely manner. The AOC is expected to problem solve with team members and provide clinical and logistical expertise in all areas of the donation process. The AOC promotes staff adherence to all regulatory and accrediting agency standards, as well as all internal Infinite Legacy organizational policies, procedures and guidelines. This is a full-time position requiring 7 (bi-weekly), 12-hour shifts, to include nights, weekends and holidays. Additional shifts may be required to ensure appropriate schedule coverage.Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Biology, Allied Health, or Communications preferred.Three to five years of relevant experience in the clinical setting of organ, eye & tissue donation required.Demonstrated leadership skills, as well as excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Demonstrated excellent judgment, conflict resolution, decision making and organization skills.
