Position OverviewThe Self Engineering Leadership Fellows (SELF) Program in the School of Engineering at The University of Kansas (KU) is seeking an outstanding candidate for Assistant, Associate or Full Professors of Practice in the areas of engineering leadership, management, business, and/or entrepreneurship. The target starting date is December 1, 2025. These positions will be Academic Year appointments (August 18 through May 15/16) with 8 weeks of summer salary possible based upon the needs of the department/program. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the start date of the position.

Appointment level will be based on an applicant's scholarly and teaching record and practical experience. All Professor of Practice positions, regardless of rank, are non-tenured positions appointed for a three-year limited term period with the possibility of renewal based upon a comprehensive review at the end of the term. However, the School of Engineering and its five academic departments have a strong tradition of employing non-tenured faculty long-term. With recent expansion and projected growth, they are looking for a strategic leader to guide their talented team and contribute to the company’s continued success.The Role:The Senior Project Manager will play a pivotal role in overseeing the design, permitting, and execution of land development projects. Reporting to senior leadership, this position will lead a team of civil and site engineers, ensuring the successful delivery of client projects. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with internal staff, clients, stakeholders, and regulatory boards. Success in this position will be defined by the ability to manage complex projects, mentor team members, maintain high-quality standards, and contribute to business development efforts.Responsibilities:Lead and manage a team of civil/site engineers to deliver high-quality land development projectsOversee project schedules, permitting strategies, budgets, contracts, and invoicingProvide quality control review across all phases of design developmentMentor and develop junior engineering staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environmentFacilitate project meetings, including board and commission meetings and public presentationsEngage effectively with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to deliver project solutionsSupport business development activities aligned with the firm’s growth objectivesEnsure compliance with local and state regulatory requirements, including stormwater managementRequirements:Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related fieldLicensed Professional Engineer (PE) certification requiredMinimum 7 years of experience managing land development projectsStrong understanding of the Massachusetts Stormwater Handbook, HydroCAD, and drainage report preparationProven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a teamExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsDemonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and tasks with attention to detailExperience working with local boards and commissions on permitting processesNice to Have:Business development experience or interest in supporting firm growthPrior leadership in a fast-growing or newly established office environmentSalary:Competitive compensation, commensurate with experienceLocation:Hybrid role based at the new headquarters in Lawrence Massachusetts; some in-office presence required to support team and client needs
