💻 About the opportunity

We are seeking a purpose-driven Senior Backend Engineer to work on a critical, stealth project on our DriveShield™ team to enhance driver safety and make a real-world impact on the lives of millions.

You will play a key role in building scalable and high-performance backend systems that power Jerry.ai’s explosive growth. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the team that that helps us go from 5M to 50M customers and disrupt a $2T market while driving innovation at scale.

🫵 How you will make an impact

Focus more on the non-functional requirements of backend applications, including service availability, scalability, reliability (fault tolerance), and possibly observability and security

Oversee system design and architecture to ensure robust and scalable solutions

Develop and optimize real-time data processing applications using Kafka and Flink

Profile and optimize application performance

Focus on the application side, collaborating with data scientists to deploy and integrate models in production

Handle data processing, sanitization, validation, and data QA

🚀 Requirements

5+ years of software engineering experience

Proficient in at least one core language (e.g., Java, Python, Go, JavaScript)

Expertise in Kafka Streams, Flink or similar real-time data processing frameworks

Experience building real-time data processing applications

You are known for shipping products and features lightning-fast

Startup experience at a high-growth company (nice to have)

Bonus if you have previous knowledge of working with geospatial data

Java and sometimes Python

💻 About the opportunity

We are looking for a Staff Applied Data Scientist (PhD) who is energized by working with a high caliber team and making a material difference in the lives of millions to join us! Reporting directly to our cofounder/CTO, you will architect and deploy advanced ML models with massive real-world applications (e.g. model & predict user behavior, leverage LLMs and custom-built components to optimize our chatbot & voicebot, etc). Come play a key role in helping us grow from 5M to 50M customers and become a $10B company in the next 4 years!

🫵 How you will make an impact

Develop and architect advanced machine learning models to address critical business challenges and drive company-wide strategic initiatives

Take ownership of the end-to-end modeling process, from initial ideation to model deployment and maintenance

Conduct thorough data preparation and analysis to ensure the quality and relevance of input data for modeling tasks

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product and Data Engineering to productize and deploy models into production systems

Contribute to large-scale company initiatives aimed at solving problems that haven’t yet been touched by anyone at Jerry

🚀 Requirements

PhD in Physics or related field

5+ years of experience building and deploying models from scratch.

Deep understanding of machine learning algorithms and techniques, with experience in building and deploying models from scratch.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical modeling solutions.

Passion for real-world application of machine learning, with a desire to make a significant impact on large-scale business initiatives.
