Job DescriptionJob DescriptionDescription:Prevailance Inc. has been awarded the contract to support the 341st Training Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and is seeking an experienced and mission-focused Military Working Dog (MWD) Trainer to join our team. The position is anticipated to begin in 2025, and we are currently accepting applications from qualified candidates to prepare for program launch.
The MWD Trainer will provide expertise in training Military Working Dogs in accordance with standing 341st Training Squadron requirements. This role requires specialized experience outlined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for the GS-1712 Training Instruction series.
Responsibilities:Train potential explosive/drug detection and patrol dogs at the Military Working Dog Center (MWDC)Conduct training in diverse environments, including buildings, warehouses, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, and luggagePerform on/off-leash obedience training and controlled aggression exercisesHandle and train MWDs specializing in narcotics detection, explosive detection, and patrol aggression dutiesTrain while wearing personal protective equipment, including bite suits, sleeves, boots, and glovesMaintain detailed training records and track MWD progress through identified courseworkConduct research on working dog training techniques and military references to refine training programsEvaluate canine behavioral attributes, environmental factors, and training program deficienciesDevelop scenario-based training exercises and prepare detailed reports documenting evaluations and re-evaluationsAssist in special projects such as social demonstrations and public displays associated with MWD programsEnsure canine health, safety, and well-being, including veterinary visits and proper documentationProvide recommendations to management for improving training programsWork Conditions:Physically demanding role, requiring walking, running, bending, and lifting dogs up to 80 lbsRegular exposure to weather extremes, hazardous chemicals, loud noises, unpleasant odors, scratches, and bitesMay require feeding and grooming MWDs during emergencies or inclement weatherPosition subject to shift workTravel may be requiredRequirements:Minimum Qualifications:Seven (7) years of experience in Military Working Dog programs as a military officer or senior NCOCompletion of a tour at the Military Working Dog Center (MWDC) at JBSA-Lackland AFBGraduate of the MWD Handler Course of InstructionGraduate of the Kennel Master/Trainer Course of InstructionExpertise in: Developing and executing training programs for patrol, explosive, and drug detection caninesScenario-based training and evaluation of canine teamsAnalyzing and addressing training deficienciesProducing comprehensive training and evaluation reportsStrong administrative skills to maintain accurate MWD training and progress recordsKnowledge of canine health requirements and safety protocolsPreferred Qualifications:Graduate of the Military Working Dog Kennel Master course at Lackland AFBExperience evaluating potential canines for procurement by the 341st Training SquadronFamiliarity with curriculum development through NETC or CENSECFORHigher staff experience at TYCOM, numbered fleets, CNIC, or NECC, with exposure to program policy and doctrine developmentEducation:Graduate of the MWD Handler and Kennel Master/Trainer CoursesSecurity Clearance:Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearanceIf you meet these qualifications and are ready to make an impact, we encourage you to apply today!
