Our client, a healthcare focused financial consulting firm, is looking for a Software Engineer to join their talented team on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on full-stack engineer with strong backend experience in PHP (Symfony) and solid frontend and database skills are a must have. This is a hybrid role in Concord, CA and the salary is $140,000 - $150,000 annually.

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Design, develop, and maintain features for a cloud-based SaaS applicationBuild backend services using PHP (Symfony) and frontend components with Vue.js (JavaScript/TypeScript)Work with MySQL/MariaDB databasesCreate clean and robust UIs using templating engines like Twig, Mako, Jinja or frameworks like VaadinContribute to modernizing legacy systems and evolving the existing tech stackParticipate in code reviews and continuous improvement of the codebaseParticipate in system architecture and design decisions to ensure performance, scalability and maintainabilityCollaborate with product owners, engineering team members and cross-functional stakeholdersParticipate in Agile sprint planning and ceremoniesSupport and improve CI/CD pipelines and development workflowsWork with cloud-based infrastructure in AWS

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

5+ years of professional software development experienceMust have strong experience with PHP (Symfony framework)Experience creating UIs using modern templating frameworksExperience with JavaScript/Typescript (Vue.js) preferredSolid experience with relational databases (MySQL, MariaDB, or similar)Experience working in cloud environments (AWS)Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelinesExperience designing scalable, cloud-based systemsAbility to write clear unit tests with frameworks like PHPUnit, unittest, JUnit and JestComfortable working with Linux environmentsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex systemsAbility to work independently in a remote-first environment

Bonus Qualifications:

Experience with AWS services (S3, RDS, Redshift)Familiarity with Docker/Kubernetes, Airflow, Java, or PythonExperience with microservices, REST APIs, or legacy system modernizationBackground in SaaS, data-heavy, or regulated environments

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 25 lbs., if able to do so.Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequentlyMust be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.

Software Engineer — back-end software developer with a strong background in PHP and database management. The ideal candidate should have at least 6 years of experience delivering advanced solutions for multi-tier, distributed web applications. Skilled in computer software development, applying principles and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis in designing, developing, testing, and evaluating legacy systems and applications. Responsible for designing, developing, and deploying server-side PHP scripts and programs; taking a leading role in designing and maintaining the development environment, frameworks, performance, content management, and databases for the NSWCPD team; documenting code, concepts, business logic, and logistics; working within a team to design and develop new features and interfaces using modern programming paradigms; assisting with debugging, fixing bugs, and day-to-day maintenance tasks; supporting QA testing of new code; possessing knowledge and ability to understand enterprise-level architecture; capable of serving as an agile Scrum master if needed; and supporting and modifying existing legacy applications.

Preferred Experience:

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering. CompTIA Security+ certification.

4+ years of experience in a professional LAMP development environment.

A solid understanding of containers and virtualized local development using Docker is a plus.

Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Ability to develop new and innovative applications as well as maintain existing code.

Ability to organize & communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with technical and non-technical people across functional teams.
