    Responsibilities

     Provides assistance to adult clients with serious behavioral health issues, in learning independent living skills using various methods of role modeling and motivational interviewing. Demonstrating and assisting with tasks such as making a shopping list, preparing meals or following recipe instructions Provides education and direction on proper hygiene and grooming and demonstrates housekeeping skills. Monitors overall personal safety of residents including crisis intervention. Participates and encourages clients with individual and group recreational activities such as sewing, cooking and art. Monitors medication effectiveness and may observe clients taking medications. Assists in facilitating transportation including assisting clients in attending all scheduled appointments. Performs tasks related to maintaining environmental standards in residential facilities and vehicles. Maintains records according to health department policies and assists in managing clients' financial accounts. Maintains confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to client privacy laws. Participates in emergency activities as assigned.

    Must be 21 years of age. Experience preferred, but not required,

    A qualified candidate must possess a valid State of Illinois Driver's license and have a good driving record. New employees are required to attend paid on-site, HR New Hire Orientation as well as CPR and CPI certification classes along with a one-day Behavioral Health Services orientation, at our Central Public Health Center in Wheaton from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, for one week.

    Patient Care Technician (PCT)

    Join our healthcare team as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) and play an important role in delivering compassionate, high-quality patient care. In this role, you will work closely with Registered Nurses and clinical staff to support patients and help maintain a safe, supportive care environment.

    Reporting to the Nurse Manager , the Patient Care Technician assists licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care in accordance with hospital policies, nursing standards, and regulatory guidelines . This position is ideal for individuals pursuing a career in nursing, healthcare, or clinical patient care .

    Key Responsibilities Direct Patient Care

    • Accept patient care assignments from the Charge RN or designee
    • Immediately report changes in patient condition to the primary RN
    • Obtain, document, and report vital signs , rechecking as needed
    • Measure and document patient intake and output
    • Perform capillary blood glucose testing and report abnormal results
    • Perform ECGs as directed
    • Apply monitoring equipment including NIBP, ECG electrodes, pulse oximetry, and end-tidal CO monitoring

    Patient Support & Unit Assistance

    • Assist with patient transport and transfers throughout the hospital
    • Respond to patient call lights and family requests in a timely manner
    • Support activities of daily living (ADLs) under nursing supervision
    • Help maintain a safe, clean, and supportive patient care environment
    • Perform unit-related tasks assigned by the Nurse Manager or designee

    Patient Safety & Observation

    • Provide continuous observation of assigned patients to ensure safety
    • Verbally redirect patients engaging in at-risk behaviors
    • Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and rights

    Virtual Safety Attendant / Telesitter Program

    When assigned, the Patient Care Technician may function as a Virtual Safety Attendant supporting the hospital's Telesitter patient monitoring program .

    Responsibilities include:

    • Continuous visual observation of patients using AvaSure® monitoring technology
    • Using two-way audio communication to redirect patients when necessary
    • Promptly notifying clinical staff if patient assistance is required
    • Monitoring the environment and reporting potential safety hazards
    • Collaborating with bedside nursing staff during shift handoffs
    • Setting up and maintaining telesitter monitoring equipment
    • Educating patients and families about the telesitter safety program

    Professional Development

    • Participate in unit projects and patient care improvement initiatives
    • Attend in-service trainings and educational programs

    Minimum Qualifications Education

    High School Diploma or GED preferred
    • Must be currently enrolled in a professional or practical nursing program

    Experience

    Acute care or hospital experience preferred

    Licensure & Certification

    BLS Certification - Healthcare Provider required
    Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) strongly preferred
