    General Function

    Under the guidance of the Executive Director-SWIMS, the Detroit SWIMS Program Director will work with Y team member to help grow the Detroit SWIMS program. The Program Director support the day-to-day operations of Detroit SWIMS and the intent to increase both program quality and the number of children we serve in the tri-county area. The SWIMS Program Director will support the SWIMS Executive Director in developing partnerships with schools, municipalities and other youth serving organizations.

    Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

    An Associate’s degree or equivalent in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field is required. Bachelors’ Degree in Physical Education, Recreation, or related field is preferred.Aquatics program experience is required.2 years with a Bachelor’s degree.3 years with an Associate’s degree or equivalent.Demonstrated commitment to aquatics.Excellent organizational and communication skills.Prior experience managing and developing aquatic-related programming is required. A minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience including hiring, managing and developing staff is required.Certifications in CPR-Pro, AED, Emergency O2, First Aid, American Red Cross Lifeguard, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, and YMCA Swim Instructor preferred at time of hire or must be obtained from a YMCA-approved instructor within three months of hire

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    Work in partnership with the Executive Director-Detroit Swims and the VP of Operations-Community Initiatives to establish a funding case on an annual/seasonal basis based on annual delivery expectations.Contribute to identifying potential supporters and donors to support the program.Contact liaison for the communications and marketing department for Detroit SWIMS.Reach out to schools and community centers with pools, presenting Detroit SWIMS as a partnership opportunity.Orchestrate off-site pool use, communicating with administration, facility staff and YMCA staff to ensure safe execution of the program.Coordinate and recruit an active volunteer base, including program volunteers and working with the Detroit SWIMS Committee members.Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor

    General Function

    The lifeguard is responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions under Y policies and safety rules, while creating a safe and positive atmosphere for promotion of YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit member safety and engagement.

    Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

    At a minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)1 year of experience is preferred, but not requiredCurrent American Red Cross Lifeguard license is preferred, but not required (we offer certification)CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    Maintains active surveillance of the pool area utilizing the “effective 10/20 scanning strategy”, while ensuring fellow staff follow proper guidelines and correct when neededResponds to emergencies and relays reports in accordance with YMCA and The American Red Cross policies and guidelinesPerforms and documents proper equipment and chemical checks using appropriate protocolAttends all staff meetings, required training and certification courses, and attends monthly in-service training.Performs other assigned duties as directed by the supervisor.

    Ability to hear and observe distress signals in the water and anywhere in the zone of responsibilitySkills to meet strength and lifting requirements
