    Lifeguard (Opener) West Carrollton YMCA West Carrollton, OH Part-Time/Non-Exempt $12.00-$14.40/Hour This position is supplemented a differential due to opening hour shifts M- F at 5:00 a.m-10:00 a.m. Free Certification/Training provided by the YMCA (see below) Opening hours starting at 5 or 6 am mon-fri, 2-3 shifts per week at 4-6 hrs each Position Summary: Responsible for maintaining safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. This position will also assist with swim instruction when needed. Essential Functions: Maintains constant observation of the pool area. Ensures safety by communicating and enforcing any pool rules, policies, and guidelines at participants' comprehension level. Ensures safety by checking for hazardous conditions and making sure all safety equipment is properly placed and in proper working condition. May be required to perform the duties of Swim Instructor. Responds to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc. Completes incident and accident reports as required. Follows all aquatics employee rules, dress code, policies, and guidelines. Maintains and records accurate records including pool chemical readings, first aid kit supplies, and pool equipment. Maintains a clean environment by following and recording proper cleaning procedures. Inspects pool and rescue equipment for safety hazards, damage, or wear. Sets up and stores equipment and assists other employees with event set up. Practices rescue and fitness drills regularly. Promotes aquatics and other YMCA programs. Communicates any suggestions to improve the aquatics facility. Physically performs all skills required of a lifeguard. Hears noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, including in the water and anywhere around the zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodation. Remains alert with no lapses of consciousness. Sees and observes all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodation. Qualifications: Must be at least 15 years of age. Currently hold or possess the ability to participate in and achieve certification for the following: Professional rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard certification from the American Red Cross or YMCA, Starguard, Ellis that can be crossed over to American Red Cross. Minimum of six months or more of related lifesaving experience preferred. Free Certification Training Provided by the YMCA Certification requirements include CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and must hold current Lifeguard certification through the YMCA or American Red Cross. Passing the physical competency test includes: Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest by jumping into deep water and totally submerge, resurface then swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. (Swimming on the back or side is not permitted. Swim goggles are allowed.) Maintain position at the surface of the water for 2 minutes by treading water using only the legs. Swim 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards. (The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.) Surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 - 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface. Position Summary: Childcare Site Administrator (Lead Activity Leader) for Childcare in Dayton, OH, is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of all activities. The Site Administrator is responsible for ensuring the children's social, physical, spiritual and mental development in the program, as well as keeping safety and the well being of the children as a first priority. Planning and program development skills are helpful. 1 year minimum of office administration and customer service required. 1 year minimum of supervisory experience is strongly preferred. A valid driver's license, clean driving record, and completion of YMCA Driver Orientation are required only for employees who will perform driving responsibilities as part of their role. Candidates without a valid license may still be hired but will not be eligible to drive YMCA vehicles until requirements are met. Optional based on specific assignments. Computer skills needed, particularly with Microsoft Office and email applications. Essential Functions: Spends time on ratio as the teacher/activity leader. Assists in the planning, designing, evaluation and implementation of all aspects of the child care programs in accordance with YMCA of the USA and YMCA of Greater Dayton guidelines. Operates program within budget guidelines. Responsible for all aspects of program development, quality and safety. Maintains required enrollment numbers. Administers the program in accordance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) guidelines. Cooperates with ODJFS staff for required reports and inspections; responds to inspection requests within required timeframes. Completes annual inspections within required timeframe with fire department, Department of Health, etc. as required. Maintains appropriate adult/child ratio. Leads site classroom and fills in other classrooms when needed. Maintains a clean and sanitary environment and meets all state and local licensing requirements. Inspects equipment within the building for safety hazards, damage or wear. Communicates any suggestions to direct supervisor to improve the site operations. Monitors and assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the program area. Monitors and trains evaluates appropriate staff. Assists director in filling staff vacancies in accordance with Association guidelines. Ensures staff members maintain required trainings. Holds effective staff meetings.
