Superintendent A Superintendent is responsible for directing all earthwork, installations, and construction activities on projects. They supervise and manage the field personnel as required to successfully complete construction on schedule and within budget. This includes maintaining the highest levels of safety, quality, documentation, and communication with all trade and field personnel. Whitaker, an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company, has become one of the largest contractors in the intermountain area with more than 600 employees and nearly 70 crews. We perform sanitary sewer, storm drain, culinary water, irrigation, earthwork, roadway construction, dams, landfills, natural gas pipelines, industrial piping, and telecommunication projects primarily in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, and Oregon. Roles and Responsibilities Including but not limited to the list below. Read and understand plans, specifications, and local building codes. Read, understand, exemplify, and enforce safety policies and practices. Schedules and documents all required inspections, quality testing, or other compliance requirements. Comply with and document environmental permits and inspections. Completes daily reports such as units complete, safety reports, EEO meetings and weekly unit cost worksheets. Read and understand global project schedules and generate two-week construction schedules weekly. Schedule and order materials, inspections, and manpower to meet and/or exceed project schedules and specifications. Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules. Confers with and directs personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays. Maintain a general knowledge of equipment used on the job including basic understanding of equipment limits and designed purposes. Track delivery, use and completion of rentals on the job. Complete regular performance reviews for employees under his/her/their direction in a complete and timely manner. Ensures the employee understands the review, signs the review form(s), and is provided a copy for their own records. Confers with personnel to resolve complaints and grievances within work force. Complete 20 hours per year of continued education relating to our field. Attend weekly Superintendent meetings and participate actively. Maintain professional attitude with owners, inspectors, public, and company personnel. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors. Skills and Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is strongly preferred. Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.). 5+ years of Construction/Project Management experience in a civil construction environment. Knowledge of Heavy Civil Construction processes and industry standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
