    About the Role

    Western Specialty Contractors Internship program is designed to hire students during their freshman year throughout their senior year. The program will allow the students to work in a field environment as well as an office environment. During this time, they will be able to obtain valuable experience that can be utilized to further their potential for full-time employment with Western. The program works as follows:

    The intern and their Supervisor will develop a personalized training plan consisting of several of the following tasks. The intern's training plan will be dependent on the student's education, individual learning expectations, experience level, and needs of the Branch. The intern and their Supervisor will have periodic meetings during the internship to continuously monitor the effectiveness of the program.

    What You'll Do:

    Marketing/Business Development:

    Help develop marketing trackingAssist sales project managers in scheduling, coordinating, and presenting when necessary at workshops, seminars, lunch and learns and other business development opportunitiesHelp implement the branches marketing plansParticipate in sales calls with the branch manager or sales/project managersAssist branch staff through all phases of business development.

    Field Operations:

    Obtaining permits, checking zoning and code requirements, and arranging temporary facilities and utility servicesSupervising punch-list and Quality Assurance activities, conducting safety inspectionsPreparing for and scheduling city, county, fire, etc. inspectionsAssisting with surveying, testing, sample collection, shop drawing correction, filing and checking of material deliveriesVerifying work hours, materials, and other elements necessary for tracking productivity and/or work in placeAssisting with schedule and cost control, inventory control and daily job reportingLearning and understanding the restoration tradesOther duties as practical for intern placement

    Office Operations:

    Preparing quantity takeoffs, calling vendors and/or sub-contractors for proposalsChecking drawings and specifications for completeness, discrepancies, etcAttending pre bid, bid openings, job site, in house sales, foreman and safety meetings, etcTaking notes, making records, and completing formsAssisting with project record keeping, preparing shop drawings and assisting with cost control recordsParticipating in different aspects of Business DevelopmentOther duties as practical for intern placement

    Project Management:

    Assisting Project Managers and Superintendents at as high a responsibility level as practicalPlanning and scheduling, preparing requests for progress payment, and processing change ordersCreating and tracking construction schedules, submittal schedules, submittal logs and processing submittalsProcuring and expediting materialsObserving and creating/updating minutes for jobsite meetings (subcontractor, foreman, safety, etc.)Updating/redlining drawings, etcOther duties as practical for intern placement

    Requirements:

    Currently enrolled in a 4-year degree programWillingness to learn and workWillingness to enjoy an enriching internship experienceAbility to commute to and from the branch office each day
