    General Summary Provides pathology services; assists in the supervision and direction of activities relating to the Laboratory in accordance with accepted national standards and policies of the Hospital. Acts in the capacity of the Chief Pathologist in his absence. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Functions: * Provides pathology services to aid in diagnosis of disease conditions and treatment of patients. * Performs postmortem examinations, performing macroscopic anatomical examinations and microscopic studies and completes reports as requested in a timely manner. * Conducts macroscopic and microscopic examinations of specimens of body tissue, fluids, and secretions, and diagnoses nature of pathological condition. * Establishes departmental procedures and methods of operation. * Assigns and supervises activities of department personnel relative to histology and cytology. * Assists in the training of technologists and demonstrates new techniques to staff. * Serves as consultant to other physicians to interpret laboratory findings and assist in determining appropriate method and extend of treatment necessary. * Participates with personnel of other departments in planning joint administrative and technical programs. * Recommends methods and procedures for coordination of Pathological services with related patient care services. * Assists in establishment of a comprehensive yet cost effective quality control and Quality Assurance Program. * Participates in the formulation of departments operating and capital budgets; recommends areas of cost control and assists in marketing efforts relative to the Laboratory.
