    We are seeking a highly capable Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (contract/temporary) to support ongoing product development and improvement efforts. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role centered on improving existing designs, building hardware, and driving real-world performance.

    The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience, strong Onshape proficiency, and thrives in a fast-paced, highly collaborative onsite environment.

    ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Design and improve components and systems based on existing products (“like design”)Develop and release mechanical designs using OnshapeDrive improvements in performance, manufacturability, and reliabilitySupport testing, root cause analysis, and design iterationPrototype and evaluate alternative design approachesContribute to system integration (mechanisms, motion systems, assemblies)Develop and refine assembly and test processesCollaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and field teamsBuild, assemble, and validate prototypes and hardware hands-onRequirements:8+ years of mechanical design experienceStrong proficiency with Onshape (required)Experience across key domains: machined parts, sheet metal, plastics, mechanisms, power transmission, and thermal systemsExperience with testing, debugging, and iterative designStrong understanding of DFM and practical manufacturing considerationsHands-on capability, including building and validating designs independentlyExperience with electromechanical systems and system integrationAbility to adapt and improve existing designsComfortable working onsite in a collaborative environment

    Nice to have:

    Experience with large weldments and structural design (FEA a plus)Experience working around rotating machineryBackground in reliability, failure analysis, or assembly/test process development

This role will play a key technical leadership position in the development of next-generation X-ray and chemical detection systems, spanning precision handheld devices to large-scale vehicle and cargo scanning platforms.

    The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead complex mechanical designs, mentor junior engineers, and partner closely with Engineering, Physics, Program Management, and Operations to drive products from concept through full-rate production and sustaining engineering.

    Responsibilities
