    Purpose:

     

    The Senior Process Engineer/Technical Manager is responsible for ensuring capable and controlled manufacturing processes are in place and drives continuous improvement initiatives to optimize safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.  Ensures that product, customer and business requirements are clearly defined and are met by CH plant process capabilities.  Responsible for ensuring existing and new equipment and tooling procured through the annual capital budget meet the plant’s capability and capacity requirements.

     

    Drives improvements in VOS KPIs by leveraging process engineering practices and Lean principles and methodologies to reduce waste.

     

    The role also fosters a work environment where Vesuvius’ CORE values are implemented and respected.

     

    Direct Reports:

    VISO Technical ManagerAutomation Engineer


    Dimensions of Position:

    Manage the plant-wide Technical function including the activities of the VISO Technical Manager and Automation Engineer.Ensure all processes comply with applicable safety, environmental, and quality standards, for Mix plant and Viso plant.Assess process capability by conducting PFMEA and other studies as required.  Drive improvement actions as required, for Mix plant and Viso plant.Review and update Control Plans and Standard Work Instructions, OK to Start Checklists and other process control documents, and ensure they are followed by Production employees and leaders of Mix plant and Viso plant.Track KPI performance, including but not limited to VOS KPIs, and lead problem-solving and continuous improvement actions based on actual versus targeted performance for Mix plant and Viso plant.Analyze customer complaints and internal rejects, conduct root cause analysis, and drive improvement actions for Mix plant and Viso plant.Design, validate, and implement new or changed manufacturing processes as required for Mix plant and Viso plant.Identify and prioritize needs for new equipment and tooling to meet the Plant’s capability and capacity requirements. Support the annual capital budgeting process by identifying and recommending solutions (with implementation cost and timing), for Mix plant and Viso plant.Prepare capex submissions and supporting business cases as required for Mix plant and Viso plant.Manage equipment suppliers and coordinate internal resources to execute capex projects on time and on budget, for Mix plant and Viso plant.Coordinate New Product Introduction (NPI) meetings and related actions to ensure capable processes are in place for on-time production launch readiness, for Mix plant and Viso plant.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering preferred)


     8. Experience:

    Five years of experience in a similar position including both technical process engineering and managerial skills and experience.


    9. Knowledge:

    Knowledge of process engineering and control practices (PFMEA, Design for Manufacturing, Control Plans). Project management principles, practices, techniques, and tools. Problem solving tools (i.e.: 8D, Six sigma, 5 Why, SMED). Processes for manufacturing refractories. CNC machine and programming. Use of measuring devices (Caliper, micrometer, etc.). Drawing reading. Work area layout for efficiency. Lean principles familiarity (waste reduction, 5-S, etc.).

    Purpose:

    Ensure the continuous operation of the production lines, in regard of equipment and facility availability/reliability.

    Key Results Areas:

    Responsibilities:

    · Maintains and promotes safety, safety awareness, employee safety and ensures all jobs are done in a safe manner. Performs regular safety checks, housekeeping audits, and other required aspects of the corporate safety program.

    · Abides by all safety, health and environmental policies required by regulatory authorities or the Company.

    · Files incident reports including near miss, injury, property damage, fires and environmental. Leads and reports on incident investigations and follow up action status.

    · Resolves problems affecting production, including directing maintenance personnel to an equipment failure, scheduling production employees as required and notifies Plant Manager of any out of the ordinary circumstances.

    · Directs maintenance as required on shift and reviews completed work orders against work performed to ensure that the job requirements were adequately met.

    · Directs people, both employees and contractors, involved with scheduled and unscheduled down time for purposes of minimization of down times and best utilization of resources during those periods.

    · Assists in the planning, scheduling and execution of plant maintenance activities as needed.

    · Keeps employees informed of any operating changes and trains employees to work effectively and safely. Helps train employees for newly bid jobs and ongoing job knowledge.

    · Ensures that adequate stocks of operating supplies are available and communicates needs as identified.

    · Maintains a neat and orderly work environment and ensures that high standards of housekeeping are maintained within the Main Plant and grounds.

    · Maintains a daily shift report of plant activities and employee time control records.

    · Enforces plant rules and administers discipline as necessary consistent with plant disciplinary guidelines.

     

    Qualifications:

    · Formal education or certifications preferred

    · 1-3 years supervisory experience in Manufacturing

    · Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes

    · Knowledge of Preventative Maintenance preferred

    · Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel for Windows

    · Strong interpersonal skills, People oriented, Team Player

    · Problem solving and Attention to Detail skills

    · Withstand significant environmental changes

    · Traverse company grounds and enter all areas of plant

    · Access the top of equipment

    · Ascend/descend steps, stairs and ladders in the plant and on various equipment
