    Welders employed at Veritas Steel's Palatka location are responsible for performing FCAW & SMAW processes to codes, and standards, including repairs and miscellaneous tasks as assigned by Shop Supervisor. They must be able to meet high production demands in a timely manner and complete high-quality work with expertise. Welders must also adhere to company policies to ensure a safe working environment.

    Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

    Uses proper safety equipment to ensure surfaces are adequately prepared for all operations:Air arc, Grove Welds, Flex Core, Full PinUsing correct procedures to obtain proper weld profile, etc.,Understands general knowledge of welding codes and welding toolsProper preparation, cleaning, and setupHand torch - setup and useUnderstand basic weld symbols/gaugesMaintains shop, equipment, tools, vehicles, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items and ensuring safety Coordinates with shop supervisor and other personnel for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently, on time, and with no defects Adheres to safety policies to ensure a safe working environment for oneself and surrounding coworkers Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: High School diploma or GEDMust be able to read, write, and comprehend EnglishNeed to be able to read metric tapesAble to adapt to work priorities, communicate well, meet deadlines and schedules, and work as part of a teamCommitment to work safety and actively participating in our safety cultureCommitment to attendance policy and proceduresQuality, accuracy, thoroughness, and reliability of work performedWillingness to learn and contribute to the success of your teamWelding experience is preferred but not required

    Physical Requirements:

    Able to lift 40 pounds and carry 30 poundsMust be able to push /move objects up to 50 pounds of forcePulling requirements up to 122 pounds of forceNecessary to stand, walk, stoop, and kneel up to 99% of the shiftMust have a good range of motion when reaching forward, shoulder to overhead, and bendingAgile fingers and thumbs on both hands

    Working Conditions:

    Work is performed indoors in a large warehouse or outside in all weather conditionsThere is regular exposure to dirt, dust, paint fumes, noise, moving equipment, heavy steel & other possible hazardous conditionsSafety glasses, hearing protection, hard hats, and steel-toed boots are required; a respirator is required for specific operations

    Position Summary
    Plans, directs, coordinates, monitors, and executes activities related to ensuring the quality of the structural steel fabrication. Operates with a sense of urgency and purpose to ensure that fabrication work is completed according to established quality standards, applicable specifications, and regulatory requirements. Works with company-wide QC team to establish quality standards and procedures, and conduct quality improvement studies and projects.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities
    - Responsible for overall management of the quality function at assigned plant
    - Manage established quality program to ensure that the fabricated steel will fit as planned, meets customer specifications, & delivery schedules
    - Work closely with Production Management/Project Management to ensure appropriate quality procedures are complied with & accurate documentation is maintained on every project
    - Responsible for administering the AISC program at assigned plant, ensure ALL employees understand & follow AISC standards, & shop is prepared & passes AISC audits
    - Supervise QC Inspectors
    - Provide assistance and/or training where appropriate, counsel employees on improving performance, conduct performance appraisals, & initiate disciplinary action when necessary
    - Determine appropriate course of action by analyzing issues, working closely with appropriate Veritas Steel employees & owner's engineers to determine course of action & accountability
    - Work closely with DOT Inspectors to schedule required inspection, ensure that appropriate documentation is completed & filed in a timely manner
    - Establish & maintain professional working relationships with customer engineers & DOT representatives
    - Keep informed on progress of current & future projects by attending regular production meetings
    - Manage welder certification program, ensure welders qualified per owner's requirements, keep appropriate records
    - Read new project specifications; plan & conduct prefabrication meetings on the new projects according to established company quality policies, customer, DOT, & Industry standard requirements; & ensure welding procedures, PQRs, WPSs, & qualified welders are tested per customer requirements
    - Supervise hold point status, review inspection reports, and maintain up to date logs of project inspection progress
    - Oversee tool calibration program
    - Perform inspection of welds, dimensions, materials, fasteners, and coatings
    - Resolve customer concerns in a timely manner
    - Membership of the Plant Leadership team, involved in planning and operations.
    - Manage established internal & outsourced non-destructive testing programs
    - Run internal Magnetic Particle Testing program
    - Maintain & update Veritas Steel's Quality Control Manual on a regular basis

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    - Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques
    - Strong computer skills (spreadsheets, word processing statistical analysis)
    - Good understanding of blue prints & shop drawings
    - Excellent interpersonal & negotiation skills
    - Able to analyze complex problems & generate solutions
    - Interact professionally with a wide variety of people situations
    - Available to occasionally travel across the United States by auto or air
    - Knowledge of structural steel fabrication, coatings, application, and non-destructive testing methods
    - Extremely strong time management and organizational ability.

    Educational Requirements
    - Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required
    - Minimum 5 years' experience leading a quality control function with welding in a heavy manufacturing environment
    - NACE or SSPC Level I paint certification, or ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire
    -Bridge experience preferred
    - UT/MT/VT level II certifications, preferred

    -Bachelor's degree in Quality Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or related field preferred

    Perform visual inspection of material as required. Perform layout checks as needed.Perform rotational capacity tests on bolts prior to use in shop.Work with outside inspectors to resolve quality issues on the floor. Monitor welder qualification tests.Monitor and record welding parameters to insure compliance to approved WPS.Be able to read and understand the Welding code and Specifications.Perform Dimensional checks on lay downs and shop assemblies. Use Total Station as needed.Develop improvements in the quality control process to facilitate flow of work through shop.Conduct audits of Quality Management SystemPerform in a manner that will assure quality work flowing through the shop.Work with welders and leadmen to maintain quality.Be available, by use of a radio, etc. to perform needed checks.Maintain a log of work done, and complete required reports.Interpret the Specifications and applicable Codes.Ability to be flexible to work either early or late within assigned shift as needed.Coordinate inspection of QC hold points between production and DOT Inspectors.Use and encourage safe working habits.

    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

    Effectively communicate with the crews, supervisors, and Quality Manager the results of your work, evaluate problems, proposed acceptable corrections, solutions, and schedules.Ability to understand and interpret blueprints, use measurement tools and techniques to verify geometric tolerances of fabricated parts and assemblies.
    Strong attention to detail and ability to make informed decisions based on project codes and specificationsCoordinate your work with shipping department to assure loads have been inspected and ready to ship.Work with supervisors to plan your work and time in each shop to facilitate the flow of quality work through the shop.General working knowledge of Total Station to assist crews as needed and finalize assemblies during off shifts as needed.Positive attitude to promote team morale and ability to coach employees for improved quality of workmanship

    Requirements:
