General Description
Provide comprehensive electrical support for site electrical systems, with responsibilities ranging from medium voltage power to HVAC controls. Primary responsibilities include Central Utility Plant electrical support (power, boilers, chillers, controls, and UPS systems), lighting system controls, and electrical power oversight for laboratory buildings. This position also serves as back-up for site electric operations and provides controls support for VFDs and other instrumentation.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Participate in efficient operations and maintenance of all building systemsMaintain operation of electrical and mechanical equipment supporting critical facility operationsDemonstrate expertise in low, medium, and high voltage systems operationDiagnose malfunctioning equipment and determine appropriate corrective actionsPerform scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance tasksCoordinate with third-party vendors to execute work and develop corrective and preventive action plansAnalyze various systems operations, troubleshoot problems/malfunctions, and implement required corrective actionsAssist with plumbing/piping/tubing installation and repair; wire single and three-phase motors (single & two speed); install conduit; pull wiring to machinery, motors, and operating equipmentInstall and rebuild pumps, motors, and air compressors; service heat exchangers; replace bearings in all types of motors; replace pump seals; install and repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems and associated controlsSupport other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building systems and equipmentImplement all standard operating procedures and practicesComply with departmental policies for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materialsMaintain a clean and safe workplace Skills & Qualifications Minimum five years' experience working with low, medium, and high voltage electrical systemsProficiency in reading and interpreting HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and architectural blueprintsCompetence with Windows-based computer systemsJourneyman Electrician certification preferredHigh school diploma required; two years of trades schooling in electrical system design preferredExperience with:Uninterruptible power systemsEmergency power systemsEnergy management systemsHVAC controlsFire alarm systemsElectrical systems engineering and operation Certifications/Licenses Valid Electrical License required
