    SUMMARY

    The Urgent Care Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital clinical leadership role within UMMA Health's Urgent Care services, supporting the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment. This position provides advanced nursing care, including patient triage, IV therapy, medication administration, and real-time clinical support to providers. In addition to direct patient care, the Urgent Care RN serves as an on-site clinical resource for Medical Assistants (MAs) and Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs), supporting daily workflows, prioritizing clinical tasks, and reinforcing adherence to established clinical standards, protocols, and best practices. The role contributes to maintaining appropriate clinical coverage, efficient patient flow, and consistent quality of care throughout urgent care operations. Work Schedule: Tuesday through Friday 11am-8pm, Saturdays 7:30am-4:30pm.

    The Urgent Care RN collaborates closely with the Director, Urgent Care and the Chief Medical Officer to support clinical policy development, onboarding and training of clinical staff, quality assurance activities, and regulatory readiness. Through mentorship, performance feedback, and participation in continuous improvement efforts, this role helps strengthen clinical operations while upholding UMMA Health's mission, service values, and commitment to equitable care.

    Essential duties

    Clinical Leadership & Workflow Management

    Prioritize, coordinate, and assign clinical tasks to MAs and LVNs during urgent care operations to ensure safe, efficient patient flow and timely provider support.Maintain daily clinical workflows by assessing patient volume, acuity, and staffing coverage needs to support providers and ensure delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.Monitor daily clinical team performance and workflow efficiency, identifying opportunities for real-time adjustments and improvements.Serve as a clinical point of escalation for workflow challenges, patient flow issues, and care coordination concerns.
    Staff Training, Development & Clinical Competency

    Support departmental orientation and onboarding for clinical staff by ensuring required clinical competencies, workflows, and training milestones are completed.Provide hands-on training and reinforcement of urgent care workflows, clinical protocols, and patient safety practices required to perform job duties effectively.Participate in the review of clinical skills and performance using designated tools, checklists, and competency assessments as directed.Provide mentorship, coaching, and constructive feedback to clinical staff in alignment with organizational policies and under the direction of site leadership.Maintain awareness of interpersonal policies and procedures and model professional, respectful communication within the clinical team.
    Quality Assurance, Compliance & Environment of Care

    Demonstrate and promote proficient knowledge of clinical practices as defined by UMMA Health policies, procedures, standing orders, and evidence-based standards.Assist in maintaining a functional, compliant clinical environment by supporting quality assurance and quality control processes, including logs, regulatory requirements, and documentation.Monitor clinical supply levels, pharmacy stock, and medical equipment needs; assist leadership in controlling non-wage expenses in alignment with organizational budgetary guidelines.Ensure exam rooms, treatment areas, and clinical spaces meet cleanliness, safety, and infection control standards throughout operations.
    Patient Care & Interdisciplinary Collaboration

    Provide direct and indirect patient-centered nursing care within the scope of practice of a Registered Nurse, including triage, IV therapy, medication administration, and patient monitoring.Work collaboratively with providers, clinical leads, supervisors, managers, and related departments to support coordinated, team-based care delivery.Uphold patient dignity, privacy, and safety in all clinical interactions.
    Additional Responsibilities

    Maintain current knowledge of organizational policies, procedures, and clinical standards relevant to urgent care operations.Participate in meetings, trainings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned.Perform other duties as assigned to support urgent care operations and organizational goals.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

    No direct supervisory responsibility.Provides clinical guidance, oversight, and support to MAs and LVNs within the urgent care setting.Supports training, competency development, and adherence to clinical standards.
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education

    Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing (RN) program.
    Licensure / Certification

    Current and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license.Current BLS certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).ACLS certification preferred.IV therapy competency required.
    QUALIFICATIONS/ POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE:

    Minimum of 2-3 years of RN experience in immediate or urgent care, emergency department, outpatient clinic, or similar fast-paced clinical setting preferred.Experience working with diverse, underserved, or safety-net populations strongly preferred.Experience providing clinical guidance or mentorship to clinical support staff preferred.Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

    SUMMARY

    Under the supervision of the Clinic Manager, the Medical Assistant is responsible for providing basic nursing care to patients under the direct supervision of the Clinic Manager. The MA will perform various clerical duties relating to the provision of care.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    Assists the Clinic Manager with maintaining patient flow including receiving/greeting patients; locating charts via EMR system; checking/making appointments; answering the telephone; and referring patients to appropriate personWhen called upon, takes action(s) necessary to maintain smooth patient flow and informs Clinic Manager of issues affecting the ability to deliver timely patient care within industry standardsAssists the Clinic Manager with training new staff At the direction of a licensed medical professional, performs basic nursing procedures as needed to maintain proper flow including:Checking/recording patients' vital signsPhlebotomyCollection/labeling of laboratory specimens in accordance with laws and policiesPackages and sends specimens in the specified manner for transport or storage Administering immunizationsAssisting providers with examinations and other procedures relating to direct patient care Maintains complete and accurate patient records, including entering data into the computer, ensuring proper documentation of all procedures Attends and actively participates in all team and staff meetings and related continuing education programs Performs a wide variety of clerical duties including: preparing routine correspondence, filing, photocopying, faxing, and answering the telephone and directing calls as needed Receives and treats all patients with the utmost respect and professionalism employment Performs other duties as assigned by the Operations Director and/ Medical Director, in the absence of the Clinic Manager
    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    To perform effectively in this position, the incumbent must have:

    Medical Assistant training and certificate of completionA minimum of 2 consecutive years' experience working as a Medical Assistant I or higher/Phlebotomy experience/skillCPR certification: Adult, Child, Infant including obstructed airwayWorking knowledge of Clinic policies and proceduresBasic clerical skills, including the use of a personal computer Familiarity with HIPPA and OSHA regulations and an ability to maintain absolute discretion over highly sensitive patient information.Very effective people skills including oral communication skills.Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultures, ages and economic backgroundsBilingual skills in English/Spanish - both written and verbal (preferred)Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel between different administrative and clinical sitesSuccessful completion and acceptable results of post offer physical examination, drug screening, and criminal background check Recommended Healthcare Personnel Requirements for vaccinations and preventative testing: Hep B, Influenza, MMR, TDAP, TBTypically, these skills are the result of completion of a combination of appropriate medical assistant training and a minimum of two years of experience in front and back office clinic procedures.
    PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

    While performing this work, the incumbent:
    Will spend substantial time standing, sitting, speaking and listening Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds Is expected to travel via personal vehicle throughout the community on a frequent basis
