    Job Description

    Are you a special education leader ready to shape inclusive, high-quality programming across a network of high schools? As Senior Manager of Special Education for Newark, you'll lead our regional special education team to ensure every student with disabilities receives the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports they need to succeed. You'll work closely with school leaders, clinicians, and regional teams to drive continuous improvement in how we implement special education services-from eligibility and evaluation through IEP implementation and compliance. This role offers the opportunity to build a cohesive, skilled team while making a direct impact on the lives of hundreds of students and families.

    Responsibilities

    Team Leadership & Development

    Supervise and support regional Child Study Team (CST) staff, providing clinical supervision, performance management, and ongoing professional coaching.Support the onboarding and training of new high school social workers and other CST staff to ensure strong integration into regional systems and expectations.Develop and facilitate professional development to strengthen the clinical practice and effectiveness of Child Study Team members and school-based special education staff.Develop and share best practices including clinical techniques, strategies, and age-appropriate interventions.

    Eligibility, Evaluation & Compliance

    Oversee and manage the eligibility and evaluation process for high school students, ensuring compliance with state and federal special education regulations.Oversee the out-of-district case management process, ensuring appropriate placement oversight and coordination among regional CST members.Support completion of special education state reporting requirements in collaboration with the Director of Special Education.

    Instructional Oversight & Coaching

    Monitor and support high school special education instructional programming, ensuring schools effectively implement academic, behavioral, and social-emotional supports for students with disabilities.Conduct regular structured check-ins with high school special education teams to provide coaching, problem-solving support, and guidance on case management and compliance practices.Conduct structured walkthroughs and reviews (2-3 times annually) to monitor the implementation of IEP services, support for at-risk students, and the provision of related services.

    Strategic Planning & Collaboration

    Participate in weekly leadership check-ins with Regional Special Education Leaders and the Senior Manager of Student Support Services to review priorities, student needs, and operational updates.Support regional strategic planning, including goal setting, program development, and alignment with the overall vision for special education services.Collaborate closely with school leaders, regional superintendents of instruction and operations, and other stakeholders to ensure strong alignment and effective implementation of special education services.

    Qualifications

    At Uncommon Schools the Dean of Students (DOS) partners with the Principal and Director of Operations to create a school culture where students are actively engaged in academics and excited to come to school.     Uncommon High School Math teachers work in grade teams and content teams to push students towards being self-guided learners. Our teachers become experts in their course content, and have a keen sense of how to motivate and inspire high school students. At the heart of all math classes is a deep joy for mathematics. Math teachers use a variety of instructional strategies to cultivate student awareness of how to make sense of, persevere through, and solve problems. At the conclusion of high school, students are prepared for academic autonomy and college preparatory work.

    Uncommon Middle School Math teachers work in grade level teams to help students grow towards being self-guided learners.     POSITION

    The Teacher Assistant position provides a unique opportunity for talented individuals with experience supporting Autistic Students in specialized settings to explore the field of education and to gain hands-on practice on supporting the mission critical work of teachers.     ROLE

    Performing arts teachers at Uncommon Schools train communication skill through musical theatre. They hold responsibility for the implementation of Uncommon Schools' performing arts curriculum and the success of its students. This performance-based program, which teaches during the school day, ensures that students perform multiple times annually.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Performing Arts teacher's responsibilities fall under 3 categories: teaching, producing theatrical and community events and supporting/building the school culture.

    Teaching:

    Teach Uncommon School's Performing Arts musical theatre curriculum which involves music, acting and movement (at Uncommon Schools much of this curriculum is already planned and written, so teacher is responsible to implement it, or select from show options depending on show)

    Implement curricula and activities to meet grade level performing arts standards

    Collaborate with our Performing Arts Team in curriculum development process.

    Producing:

    Direct and produce school productions annually ( can include: Community Circle, Latinx & Hispanic Show, Black History Show, Spring Musical and Moving Up Ceremony for every grade level annually)

    Adapt scripts annually.

    Create or order costumes, sets, props when needed, assign costumes/adapt annually.

    Supervise and craft production elements such as lights, sound, set.

    School Culture and Daily School Activities:

    Produce and oversee the school's Community Circle. This involves organizing all traffic patterns, chants, cheers, drummers, mascots, flags, working with principal to rehearse and prepare all students.
