Overview Location: UF Health Jacksonville Hospital, 655 W. 8th Street, Jacksonville, Florida 32209 Schedule: Varies Employment Type: Full-Time Eligible for sign?on bonus. Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates. Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) administers anesthesia to patients undergoing surgical, obstetric, or other procedures requiring anesthesia (CT, MRI, bronchoscopy, TEE or IR) as designated by the supervising physician. The CAA reports to the Chairman and the Chief Anesthetist for the Department of Anesthesia. Assignments are based on patient age and developmental level. CAAs assist in evaluating and training student anesthesiologist assistants. This is a Monday?Friday day shift position with no on?call, no weekends. Responsibilities Prepare all equipment and agents for anesthetic administration; report malfunctioning equipment to the anesthesia technician and/or Chief Nurse Anesthetist. Check all resuscitative equipment before the first surgery of the day and report any malfunctioning or missing equipment immediately. Record all pertinent events during induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia, including dosage and duration of anesthetic agents, other drugs, intravenous fluids, and blood components. Provide follow?up evaluation and care related to anesthesia complications or side effects. Discharge or release patients from the PACU according to established criteria. Maintain patient physiologic homeostasis and correct adverse responses to anesthesia and/or surgery. Collect and interpret physiological data by selecting, applying, or inserting non?invasive and invasive monitoring modalities. Manage the patients airway and pulmonary ventilation status. Operate and analyze advanced monitoring methods, such as pulmonary artery catheterization, electroencephalographic spectral analysis, echocardiography, and evoked potentials. Administer induction drugs, maintain and adjust anesthetic depth, manage additional treatment, and deliver continuous anesthesia care and monitoring during the postoperative recovery period. Evaluate life?threatening situations and treat with established protocols. Formulate comprehensive health and anesthetic management plans in collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, and other medical professionals, including preoperative, procedural, and post?operative discharge orders. Conduct high?level evaluation and triage specific to the specialty/sub?specialty, perform physical examinations and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, differential diagnoses, order ancillary studies, consults, and medication. Contribute to program development, implementation, and expansion, including research activities, quality improvement projects, and other initiatives. Participate in professional development opportunities and introduce innovation in practice when applicable. Actively participate in meetings, functions, events, and committees with interdisciplinary health care providers. Provide education and instruction to residents and students within the discipline. Enter pertinent clinical information in the patients medical record in a timely and accurate manner, in accordance with established compliance billing guidelines. Educate and counsel patients/families regarding health care, including routine health maintenance. Provide 24/7/365 in?house coverage for emergency and trauma care. Perform or assist with high?complexity procedures in inpatient units, operating rooms, or emergency department. Respond to consults and assist with discharge planning. Develop and implement an anesthetic plan of care. Perform assessment immediately prior to induction, including review of the medical record, laboratory data, pre?anesthesia medication, and any changes in patient condition. Include prior anesthetic experiences and complications in the record. Manage patient emergence and recovery, maintaining homeostasis, providing pain relief, preventing and managing complications, and ensuring appropriate medication, fluid, and ventilator support. Remain with the patient as long as required until responsibility for care has transitioned to other qualified individuals.
