    Turion Space is building spacecraft for national security and in-space operations. From debris removal to space domain awareness to building a more secure space economy, we are a team focused on getting real hardware to orbit fast and scaling capability.

    We are seeking a highly motivated Firmware Engineer to join our team. As a Firmware Engineer at Turion, you will be responsible for developing and testing firmware for various payload R&D projects and spacecraft bus development.

    This is a full-time, exempt position based on-site at our Irvine, California headquarters.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design, implement, and verify firmware for embedded systems and spacecraft components

    Develop and optimize firmware for efficient data handling and processing

    Create and run automated test suites, and process their results

    Perform debugging, testing, and validation of firmware on prototype and flight hardware

    Collaborate with hardware and software teams to define firmware requirements and specifications

    Support R&D efforts of new space-based payloads and systems

    Implement and optimize signal processing and control algorithms in firmware

    Integration of firmware with hardware platforms

    Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure system functionality

    Lead verification and validation of firmware-based systems

    Minimum Qualifications

    2+ years of experience developing and testing firmware in a professional environment

    Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related field

    Proficiency in embedded systems programming using C/C++

    Experience with firmware verification techniques and methodologies

    Proficiency working with firmware development tools such as JLink, Keil, IAR, or GCC

    Proficiency reading and understanding chip specifications

    Strong understanding of embedded systems principles and methodologies

    Experience with microcontroller and microprocessor systems

    Must be able to obtain and maintain Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance

    Preferred Skills and Experience

    Proficiency in assembly programming

    Experience with FreeRTOS and embedded Linux.

    Proficiency writing drivers from scratch for new hardware

    Proficiency in scripting languages including Python and Bash for automating firmware build and verification processes

    Experience with IO, timing, and performance optimization

    Familiarity with communication protocols such as UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, and Ethernet.

    Experience with image sensors and camera systems

    Firmware Engineer: $100,000 - $150,000 USD.

    The Senior Flight Software Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing software that controls and manages spacecraft systems and operations. This role involves collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams to ensure that flight software meets performance, reliability, and mission-specific requirements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design, develop, and own critical flight software solutions for spacecraft and satellite systems.

    Provide support for flight software during mission operations. Troubleshoot and resolve software issues that arise during testing and in-flight operations.

    Support and mentor a team of dedicated flight software engineers.

    Develop and execute test plans to validate flight software functionality. Write simulation code and perform integration and system-level testing to ensure software meets specifications.

    Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Systems, Hardware, Mission Operations, etc.) to ensure communication and functionality across disciplines.

    Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation for flight software, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.

    Foster a culture of continuous improvement by developing and implementing new software standards, processes, and best practices.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    4+ years of applicable experience with embedded systems programming. C/C++ proficiency mandatory.

    Demonstrated ability to personally design, build, and test embedded software from scratch.

    Capable of identifying and solving complex problems with little to no supervision or direction.

    Ability and desire to mentor and advise junior team members in a collaborative environment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    6+ years of experience developing flight software for spacecraft missions.

    Familiarity and Experience with the following:

    Linux and shell command-line tools

    Commonly used spacecraft communications standards and protocols, including CCSDS, CAN, Ethernet/IP, and SPI.

    Embedded operating systems, (Yocto, Buildroot, etc.), file systems and boot-loaders.

    NASA’s Core Flight System (cFS), F Prime (F'), or other embedded software frameworks.

    Software development tools such as Git, GTest, Python.

    Experience writing and testing complex, high reliability software which interfaces with external hardware components.

    Additional Requirements

    A passion for small, fast-paced teams and dynamic organizations.

    Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as needed to reach critical delivery deadlines.

    Senior Flight Software Engineer: $160,000-$223,000

    As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer, you will work directly with the Turion team to assist in the architecture, development, and testing of the flight software that commands and monitors our spacecraft fleet. In your role as a flight software engineer you will directly impact the architecture of the vehicle's software and computer systems as the missions increase in complexity. 

    Day to day tasks include bus design, software architecture planning, driver development, complex mission capabilities implementation, fault detection isolation and recovery implementation, as well as coordinating with other teams. 

    Well qualified candidates with relevant prior experience will be considered for the position of Senior Flight Software Engineer.
