    About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced caregiver to provide one-on-one support for a 64-year-old female client with dementia in her private home, where she lives with her husband.

Fluency in both English and Mandarin is required. The client frequently speaks Mandarin without realizing she has switched languages, so the caregiver must be able to understand her, respond appropriately, and help her feel safe and understood.

This is a stable, long-term assignment beginning with four-hour shifts on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The schedule and number of hours may increase over time as the client’s care needs grow.

Our goal is to find a caregiver who can form a genuine connection with the client, earn her trust, and make their time together safe, comfortable, and enjoyable. Because the client is naturally introverted, building trust may take time. A gentle, patient, and consistent approach is essential.

    Key Responsibilities

Provide attentive companionship, supervision, and emotional reassurance.Assist the client with locating, selecting, and correctly putting on clothing and footwear.Support daily routines while encouraging as much independence as possible.Engage the client in simple household activities, such as tidying, folding laundry, or light cleaning.Encourage the client to participate or “help,” even when tasks cannot be completed independently; the goal is shared activity and meaningful engagement.Prepare simple meals and snacks as needed.Provide medication reminders according to the established care plan.Maintain a clean, calm, and safe home environment.Observe and report changes in the client’s mood, behavior, abilities, or physical condition.Communicate clearly with the client’s husband, family, and care team.Redirect and reassure the client calmly when she becomes confused, anxious, or resistant to assistance.

    Meaningful Activities and Interests

The caregiver should be willing to use the client’s interests to create positive, enjoyable interactions. The client:

Enjoys older pop music from the 1980s and 1990s, as well as Christian music.Loves the family’s dog and cat and enjoys talking about pets.Likes walking around the backyard, picking fruit, and enjoying the flowers.Enjoys seeing and talking about young children.Responds positively to conversations about her academic achievements and university experience.Enjoys looking at family photos and videos, particularly those of her young great-niece.

    What We’re Looking For

At least five years of direct dementia-care experience.Fluency in both Mandarin and English.A patient, gentle, calm, and dependable personality.Experience building trust with clients who may be introverted, confused, or initially resistant to care.Ability to provide respectful hands-on assistance with dressing and daily routines.Strong observation, communication, and documentation skills.Ability to engage the client in meaningful activities without overwhelming or pressuring her.Reliability for a consistent Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday schedule.Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from the client’s home.

Preferred: CNA or HHA certification, CPR/First Aid certification, and professional experience supporting clients with progressive dementia.

    Physical Demands

The caregiver must be able to stand, walk, bend, and assist the client safely with dressing, household routines, and movement throughout the home and backyard. The role may require light physical assistance while maintaining proper body mechanics and client safety.

    Schedule

    Monday: 9:00 AM–1:00 PMWednesday: 9:00 AM–1:00 PMThursday: 9:00 AM–1:00 PMFriday: 9:00 AM–1:00 PM

This is a stable, ongoing assignment. Additional hours may become available over time.
