    The landscape laborer provides grounds keeping and maintenance for gardens, ponds, lawns, turf areas and other landscapes to increase the visual or functional value of the USPS NCED facility and all surrounding grounds. The landscape laborer will maintain all vegetation on the grounds, such as plants, trees, hedges and flowers to keep the landscape thriving, healthy, and effectively designed.

    Schedule:   Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 pm (Winter hours)
                        Monday through Friday 6:00 AM to 2:00 pm (Summer hours)

    Duties and Responsibilities

    * Cut grass, using walking-type or riding mowers
    * Trim hedges and edge around walks and flower beds using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging
    tools
    * Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools
    * Adjusts, repairs, additions, etc. to the turf, flowerbeds, and computerized irrigation system
    * Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs
    * Mulch gardens
    * Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods, using hose or activation water sprinkler system
    * Pick and dispose of leaves, paper and other litter
    * Remove snow or ice from walks, driveways, roads or parking lots
    * Assist with varied kinds of work including, but not limited to pouring concrete, snow removal,
    assembling modular furniture and changing light bulbs
    * Performs other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Pay Rate: $17.75 per hour

    * Must be able to use “down-time” effectively to the benefit of the company
    * Must have a well-mannered customer service attitude
    * Must be able to operate lawn care equipment including, but not limited to, tractor, weed eater, edger, hedge trimmer, push mower, chain saw, and ride on mower, etc.
    * Must be punctual, responsible, and dependable
    * Must demonstrate motivation, initiative, and reliability
    * Must be able to work as part of a team, fostering teamwork in a dynamic environment
    * Must be detail oriented
    * Must be willing to cross-train in other areas
    * Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    * Must possess a valid driver license, without special restrictions, desired

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions

    * Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for work tasks assigned
    * Must be able to work outdoors for long and varied hours, sometimes in extreme weather conditions
    * Must be capable of lifting 70 pounds unassisted
    * Must be able to ascend and descent equipment, including but not limited to, ladders, scaffolds, lifts, etc.
    * Must be capable of frequent bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and stooping, sometimes for long periods
    * Must be able to stand and walk for extensive periods of time
    * Must be capable of performing manual repetitive activities
    * Must have good manual dexterity

    Loads, unloads, and assists with pickup and delivery of freight in support of GSFC logistics support contract.


    Duties and Responsibilities  

    * Loads/unloads packages onto trucks, forklifts, and other equipment in a manner that protects the material from damage.

    * Assists driver in pickup and delivery of packages, equipment, and furniture.

    * Will provide pick up/delivery and all material handling for shred documents.

    * Ensures appropriate paperwork is completed and returned to the dispatcher.

    * May be required to operate a government provided vehicle in support of GLSC. 

    * Operates forklifts and electric powered pallet jacks.


    Qualifications


    Required Skills and Qualifications

    * Two years’ experience with freight handling.
    * Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
    * Must possess a current driver’s license.
    * Must possess a current forklift operator’s license or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
    * Must possess basic computer literacy skills to include the use of the internet and Microsoft office programs (Outlook and Word).
    * Sensitive equipment training and certification may be required for handling and moving Program Critical Hardware (PCH).

    Preferred Skills and Qualifications

    Internal Hire Hourly Rate: $33.86
    External Hire Hourly Rate: $25.40

    *CBA states new hires hourly rate will be calculated at 75% for the 12 months of employment.
