Are you a Direct Support Professional (DSP) passionate about helping people live with independence and dignity? Toolworks is hiring Community Living Instructors to provide individualized, person-centered support in our Supported Living Services (SLS) and Independent Living Services (ILS) programs.
Position OverviewAs a DSP working in Supported Living, you'll provide hands-on support and life skills instruction to adults with developmental disabilities in their homes and communities. You'll empower individuals to build routines, connect with their communities, and live fulfilling lives on their terms.
Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):Support with meal preparation, hygiene, budgeting, shopping, and personal care
Accompany clients to medical appointments, community activities, and local resources
Travel training and safety awareness education
Maintain clean and healthy home environments
Provide respectful, individualized care aligned with each person's SLS goals
Document client progress and report concerns as needed
Flexible Schedules AvailableWe offer part-time and on-call DSP shifts across San Francisco, San Mateo, and Alameda County. Available shift types include:
Day shifts
Evening shifts
Overnight (sleeping shifts)
Weekends

Experience & QualificationsFluency in American Sign Language (ASL) - preferred
Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, mental health needs, or aging-related concerns - preferred
Understanding of Supported Living Services (SLS) or community-based supports - a plus
Must be able to pass fingerprint background check
CPR/First Aid certified (within 30 days - training available)
Clean DMV record and auto insurance (only if transporting clients)

Community Living Case Lead (DSP/Supported and Independent Living, Full-Time or Part-Time)
Toolworks' Community Living Department is seeking dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) for Case Lead roles in both Independent Living Services (ILS) and Supported Living Services (SLS) programs. These roles offer a meaningful career path in supporting adults with disabilities to live as independently as possible in their communities.
Location: San Francisco Bay Area (San Francisco, Alameda, and San Mateo Counties)
Compensation: $24.18/hour
As a Case Lead DSP in our Supported Living (SLS) program, you'll provide in-home instruction, case management, and daily living skills training to individuals with developmental and physical disabilities. This includes support in areas such as:
Meal preparation, personal hygiene, and budgetingAttending medical appointments and accessing community resourcesTravel training, shopping, safety awarenessSupporting independence and inclusion in the communityEach DSP Case Lead will work closely with an assigned caseload and help develop individual support plans tailored to each client's goals within the SLS and ILS service models.
Case Lead Floater (SLS) - Key ResponsibilitiesProvide weekend and on-call support to clients and DSP staffMonitor the 24/7 Emergency Response System (ERS) and respond to staffing and client issuesCover open shifts during evenings, weekends, or overnight as neededSupport SLS staff with training and guidanceEarn a $500 stipend for full weekend rotation coverage or $75/day for partial coverageClient & Case Management Responsibilities (ILS/SLS)Develop individualized service plans and support goals for clients in Supported LivingAssist clients in accessing benefits, building natural supports, and pursuing volunteer/work opportunitiesFoster self-sufficiency and community participation through DSP-led instruction and supportProvide case notes, incident reports, and monthly billing documentation in compliance with SLS and agency standardsQualificationsMinimum 2 years' experience as a DSP or related role supporting adults with disabilities in community-based or Supported Living settingsB.A. in Special Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, or related field preferredFluency in ASL, Spanish, or Cantonese highly desirableStrong communication, organization, and time management skillsSupervisory experience preferredFlexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, or overnightsRequirementsFingerprint background clearance (DOJ, FBI, Child Abuse Index)Valid CPR/First Aid (can be completed within 30 days of hire)Clean DMV record and proof of auto insurance (if transporting clients)Fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 (required unless exempt)Benefits (for eligible DSPs)Fully paid employee medical and dental coverage401(k) with employer contribution12 vacation days, 12 sick days, 10 holidays, plus your birthday offTuition reimbursement & employee wellness programProfessional growth and internal training in the SLS modelMake a difference as a DSP in Supported Living.
