    Timmons Group is currently seeking a Survey Crew Chief to join our Survey Group located in our Ashburn, VA office location. The Party Chief is responsible for directing the daily activities of assigned Survey Instrument Operator to gather and complete assigned engineering and land surveys.

    Essential duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    Oversees the day-to-day Field Crew operations to provide field data for boundary surveys, topographical and construction stakeout surveysOversees and trains individuals to operate total station, level, GPS and data collectors for use in the collection field of survey dataEstablishes and sets point on construction stakeout projects (curb and gutter, drop inlets, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, waterline, structures, etc.)Conducts daily maintenance and up-keep of instrumentsProvides clear and concise field notes including sketchesOversees maintenance of survey equipment, supplies and vehicleCandidate must be able to work in a team environment, and also be willing to work independently on occasion

    Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:

    High school diploma/GED and five (5) years of field survey experienceExperience with Leica Robotic Total Stations, Data Collectors and GPS preferredExperience with DOT transportation surveying a plusAbility to collect field data in an organized, neat and professional manner for various boundary, topographic, design and construction staking projectsPLS/SI preferred but not requiredThe ability to compute, process and map field data will provide the right candidate opportunity and advancementAutoCAD experience a plusA valid driver's license and a good driving record requiredMust be willing to travel on occasionMust be able to carry up to 50 lb. of equipment over all types of terrainAll-weather year-round outdoor work environment, with seasonal extreme heat index and wind-chill factorsOther physical attributes of the job, such as hiking, climbing, vegetation management (chopping, cutting, hammering, sawing, etc.)Additional Information

The Survey Technician assists in application of principles, methods, and techniques of land surveying by performing the following duties:Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:Drafts subdivision plats, boundary surveys and easement plats Prepares parcel descriptionsPrepares staking maps for subdivisions, infrastructure improvements and site plansPrepares cutsheets and construction take-offsDrafts topographical surveys and creates digital terrain modelsPerforms limited courthouse researchSubmits plats for jurisdictional approvalWorks closely with the project manager and group leaderMay substitute in the field when necessaryPerforms other duties as assignedSkills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:Bachelor or Associate degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Geography, Geospatial Information Sciences or related field or a minimum of three years of progressive survey field experienceExperience working with GPS and 3D laser scanning a plusExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to read, analyze and interpret documents such as safety rules, scope of services, project budgets, jurisdictional platting & submittal requirements, and procedure manualsAbility to read deed descriptions, title reports, zoning reports, survey plats, DOT plans, engineering drawings, and aerial topographic mappingAbility to understand and follow instructionsAbility to work with mathematical concepts such as trigonometry and geometryAdditional InformationThe requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.
