    Marine Electrician Qualifications: Must have knowledge and experience to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain various electrical systems, controls and equipment either on board vessels or in shipyard facilities. An electrician must be familiar with IEEE45 rules and regulations pertaining to shipboard power, distribution and control wiring involving the proper installation of AC and DC circuits. Responsibilities: Responsible for the maintenance and repair of electrical and electro-mechanical systems of ferries, dredges, and all marine vessels. Able to read, interpret, and understand simple schematics and blueprints. Repair/Replace cables and connectors. Work involves participating in the installation, maintenance and repair of AC and DC generators, switchboards, distribution panels, lighting and alarm circuits. Troubleshoot, repair, and install electrical and electronic equipment and cables. Disconnecting and reconnecting motors and electrical equipment. Adjust/align or replace components of motors, generators, and alternators such as bearings, centrifugal switches, brushes, diodes, etc. Install shipboard power and lighting circuits using schematics, blueprints, or other drawings for routing and connection. Install and connect facility lighting and equipment circuits using conduit, hangers, and building wire. Install motor controllers, switch boxes, circuit breakers, panels, feeder cables, wireways, supports, and wires for power and lighting systems. Performs maintenance and repair of generators. Switchboards, controllers, circuit breakers, electrical motors, distribution panels, alarm and lighting circuits. Familiar with a variety of engine room and ship’s electrical systems. Identify various cables by cable types, number of conductors and wire size. Removal and installation of cables found overhead (ceiling), along a bulkhead (wall) or underneath deck (floor) cable runs may range from a few feet to more than a thousand feet. Assistance during the cable runs varies according to the cable size, length of the run, and physical difficulty. Board ships via stairs, ladders, and gangways with tool bags and needed equipment. Shipfitters with 3 or more years of experience laying out, positioning, aligning, and fitting parts of structural metal products with the use of regular supervision while always adhering to industry safety standards. Essential Functions: Positions align, fit, and welds parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools. Verifies conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes. Tack-welds fitted parts together. Lays out and examines metal stock or workpieces to be processed to ensure that specifications are met. Aligns and fits parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers. Locates and marks work-piece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
