    The Wistar Institute has an opening for a Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Nan Zhang to perform a wide variety of laboratory tasks and experiments. The Zhang laboratory (https://www.wistar.org/our-scientists/nan-zhang/) explores novel myeloid cell-based immunotherapy against metastatic ovarian cancer using mouse models and patient samples as well as state-of-the-art technologies such as spatial multi-omics, multiphoton intravital microscopy, and spectral flow cytometry.

    Bachelor's degree in a science-related field required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional communications skills as they will be trained by and work directly with the PI, as well as exhibit a keen enthusiasm for scientific inquiry. Candidates with previous experience with mouse genotyping and colony maintenance, flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, tissue culture, and molecular cloning are highly preferred.

    The Wistar Institute has an opening for a highly motivated Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Dr. Murad Mamedov as part of the new Center for Advanced Therapeutics at The Wistar Institute. The Mamedov Lab uses large-scale CRISPR screens and functional genomics to understand how the human immune system detects and kills cancerous and other diseased cells. We focus on human γδ T cells and other unconventional T cells, studying how these immune cells sense cellular stress in tumors, with the goal of developing novel and broadly accessible immunotherapies. The successful candidate will receive personalized training and close mentorship. High-performing candidates will have opportunities to expand responsibilities, develop new technical strengths, and contribute meaningfully to publications and presentations.

    What You Will Do

    The Wistar Institute has an upcoming opening in the Flow Cytometry Shared Resource (i.e., "Core" or "Facility") for the Managing Director position. The Managing Director will lead the day-to-day operations of the Flow Cytometry Shared Resource of The Wistar Institute, including management of the Facility staff. The Core provides all Wistar investigators with technological resources and professional assistance for high quality, multi-parameter flow cytometry analyses and sorting. The Flow Cytometry Facility is a key component of The Wistar Institute's NCI-designated Cancer Center Shared Resources. The Managing Director is expected to advise and coordinate work, and to facilitate projects with clients, including assisting with the design of experimental strategies, training and support, performing flow cytometry-based analysis and cell sorting, and to provide publication-quality reports with the assistance of the Core's staff in collaboration with the Core's Scientific Director.

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Be on site to support users during regular working hours.Maintenance, repair, and upgrades of present and future equipment to ensure reliable 24/7 access to Wistar investigators. This includes arranging and coordinating service contracts and necessary repairs with contracting manufacturers or outside service as needed.Operational expertise of all flow cytometry and associated equipment.Training and ongoing support to investigators for self-performed analysis, as needed.Consultation with investigators in experimental design and data analysis, including the development of new techniques.Participation in writing grant applications involving flow cytometry or the facility.Supervision of Associate Director (if appointed to Shared Resource) and technical assistant(s).Ensures that service is provided in a timely and efficient manner, such that it meets the expectations of the contracting laboratories.Responsible for scheduling and daily record keeping of the activities of the facility, as well as preparation of monthly reports.Ensure timely submission of charge sheets for all work completed by the Core to facilitate the normal billing cycle. Administration and assignment of post-acquisition flow cytometry software licenses.
    A bachelor's degree in biology, or equivalent degree is required. Applicants are expected to have more than 5 years of laboratory experience in flow cytometry. Experience with managing employees and interfacing with diverse clientele is preferred.

    Applicants should have experience with Flow cytometry analysis and sorting experience as well as the ability to operate multiple instruments simultaneously.

    The Wistar Institute has an opening for a highly motivated Research Assistant to work in the laboratory of Dr. Amelia Escolano in the Vaccine & Immunotherapy Center. The Escolano lab is interested in vaccine design, and in the analysis of the humoral and cellular immune responses to vaccination and infection. Using HIV-1 as a model, and a combination of cutting-edge approaches and different animal models, the Escolano lab investigates the mechanisms governing the B-cell and antibody responses to novel forms of vaccination, aiming to define general guidelines for the design of efficacious vaccines against highly mutating pathogens, cancer-associated viruses and bacteria.

    The responsibilities of successful candidates will involve:
    Antibody cloning, production and characterizationProtein production and purificationTechnical assistance to post-doctoral and pre-doctoral students with molecular and cellular biology experiments, and in animal studies.
    Bachelor's degree in a science-related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Excellent communication and organization skills are essential.
