    The University of Miami Health System Department of UMHC - SCCC - Stem Cell Transplant/Apheresis Clinic has an exciting opportunity for a full time Medical Assistant 1 in Miami. The incumbent shall assist patients' healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The MA provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic.

    The MA shall adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The MA provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The MA works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.

    Professional Practice
    Performs professionally within their clinical scope of practice skills utilizing State, Federal, and University of Miami's standards, guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations.Incorporates protocols and standards of care into daily practice.Accepts and provides focused constructive feedback and guidance with loving kindness in a manner that provides growth and maintains self-esteem.
    Core Duties and Qualifications
    Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information.Demonstrate knowledge of basic medical terminology.Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed.Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physician's care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.Performs routine laboratory tests.Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient's medical record.Observes and reports patient's signs or symptoms changes.Administers medication safely as directed by the physician. Assists in patient care activities such as walking.Escorts and transports patients to various hospital locations.Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique.Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.Provides patient with provider's care instructions and information.Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.Adheres to University and unit-level Policies & Procedures and safeguards University's assets.
    *Note: Designee in charge of the unit shall assign specific functions and competencies pertinent to the unit. Physician in charge shall review and sign-off all Medical Assistant's competencies and evaluations.

    Important Note: Medical Assistants (MA) working in Hospital-based units will not perform any type of medication administration.

    6. Communicates plan of care in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines (i.e. HIPAA). Uses best practices for transition of patient care.
    7. Uses available resources to assist in discharge planning.
    8. Plans, prioritizes, and adjusts assignments to accomplish goals and render superior patient care; seeks assistance when needed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education:
    Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, Bachelor's degree (BSN) preferred. RNs hired with an Associates (ASN) degree have 2 years to complete the BSN degree.
    Certification and Licensing:
    Valid Florida Registered Nurse License, ACLS, BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
    Experience:

    CORE JOB SUMMARY
    The Registered Nurse 2 - Specialty - On Call delivers patient-family centered care in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service while ensuring population-specific patient care. The incumbent oversees nurses and allied health staff in their daily practice.

    CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
    1. Assesses assigned patients and evaluates plans to include documentation of nursing care, and reports symptoms and changes in patients' condition and vital signs.
    2. Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses, conditions and physician orders.
    3. Reviews, evaluates, and reports diagnostic tests to assess patient's condition.
    4. Consults with physicians and other healthcare professionals related to assigned patients to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
    5. Prepares patients for, and assists with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
    6. Considers patient age and culture during patient treatments and provides any needed information regarding treatment plan.
    7. Nurtures a compassionate environment by providing psychological support.
    8. Performs appropriate patient tests and safely administers medications within the scope of practice.
    9. Administers and maintains accurate records related to medications and treatments as per regulatory bodies, policies, procedures and physician orders.
    10. Communicates plan of care in a timely manner to patient and family, as well as the appropriate team members, ensuring compliance with all regulatory guidelines (i.e., HIPAA).
    11. Uses available resources to assist in discharge planning.
    12. Plans, prioritizes, and adjusts assignments to accomplish goals and render superior patient care; seeks assistance when needed.
    13. Safely operates medical equipment. Serves as a preceptor and assists new staff in the provision of care to help them acclimate to the healthcare environment, and a direct patient care role.
    14. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    The Project Manager reports to the Associate Dean for Masters and Professional degree programs and inaugural Director for Master's and Professional degree programs. The Project Manager provides strategic support to, and assists the Associate Dean and Director of the online MPH program with, program responsibilities to include administrative support for the design and implementation of the innovative online MPH program. The Project Manager will (1) manage collaborations with stakeholders, vendors, and/or contractors, (2) perform operations involved in expanding, marketing, and branding of online programs and contribute to strategic recruitment for, and enhancing delivery of online MPH and other innovative training programs as directed by the Associate Dean, and (3) assist the Associate Dean for Masters and Professional degree programs in writing proposals for the online MPH and other projects/initiatives at the request of the Associate Dean.     General Description (Purpose and Function):

    The Case Worker (CW) will assist patients with their tobacco cessation efforts and will educate health care providers on tobacco cessation best practices, and the use of appropriate pharmacotherapy products. The CW will plan, conduct and evaluate support groups for patients who are trying to quit smoking at various clinical settings and in coordination with their health care providers. The CW will provide tobacco prevention education and information, and support community efforts to create/sustain tobacco free environments and worksite wellness programs for employees in partnerships with the organizations.

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    Systems Change Activities (50%)
    Works closely with Systems Change Consultant to spearhead an initiative targeting employees of the Hospitality industry. Identifies and engages key contacts and champions for tobacco program system change within the hospitality sector throughout Miami-Dade County. Identifies best areas of opportunities for expansion of the program within that sector.Conducts needs assessment for tobacco system change at the selected hospitality settings and writes reports to start discussion with the facility's administration. Works with them to formalize relationship through Memorandum of Agreements (MOA).Writes systems change work plan for selected hospitality sites, incorporating sustainability strategies, including meetings and trainings as applicable. Collaborate with UMAHEC Tobacco team to provide ongoing technical assistance to these sites for implementation of the developed Tobacco System Change work plans.Works with hospitality sites HR Leadership for implementation of referral process (automated/referral form). Track referrals by site with the purpose of increasing effectiveness of referral.Works with Tobacco Program Manager to track Tobacco Cessation activity at Hospitality sites and evaluate effectiveness of Systems Change plans.Disseminates culturally and linguistically appropriate educational materials and information on smoking/tobacco cessation services/programs.Disseminates information on the Florida Tobacco Quitline at participating clinical sites, and at community events.
    Direct Services/Tobacco Cessation Delivery (50%)
    Completes tobacco cessation and HIPAA trainings.Conducts registration and enrollment of clients into Cessation classes.Plans and conducts tobacco cessation counseling sessions and support groups with referred patients at participating sites both in-person and online.Follows up with counseling sessions and support group participants regularly to determine the most appropriate intervention.Develops, in collaboration with clinical sites, an effective and HIPAA compliant system of recording patients' tobacco cessation information on medical records.Collects and manages an effective data collection AHEC model that captures data on participants, participating sites, success and relapse rates and effectiveness of promotional efforts.Prepares and submits accurate and timely reports on all program activities.Participates in planning meetings supporting the UMAHEC mission.Any other as requested by the supervisor
