Under the supervision of the Director of Employee Relations, this position plays a critical role in supporting an organizational culture that promotes productive work behaviors and communications, facilitating effective dialogue between employees and management, resolves workplace conflict, and processing ADA workplace accommodations.

While working closely with the Criminal Defense attorneys, the Forensic Social Worker’s (FSW) primary role is to interview clients, and any collateral contacts, with the goal of gathering a life history to highlight mitigating circumstances such as mental illness, drug addiction, trauma and/or chronic poverty leading to a client’s involvement in the criminal justice system.
The FSW will then advocate for an alternative to detention, an alternative to incarceration, or lesser sentence, based on mitigating factors. The FSW will evaluate clients and recommend a treatment program. The FSW will fill out necessary paperwork and provide supporting documents to facilitate a client’s interview with a program and/or to assure a client’s acceptance into a program. The FSW educates the client about treatment options, offers crisis intervention, and short-term counseling. The FSW provides essential information to attorneys about clients.

During this process, crisis intervention, brief treatment, or short-term counseling may also be performed Identify and interview collateral sources of information. While working closely with the Criminal Defense attorneys, the Forensic Social Worker’s (FSW) primary role is to interview clients, and any collateral contacts, with the goal of gathering a life history to highlight mitigating circumstances such as mental illness, drug addiction, trauma and/or chronic poverty leading to a client’s involvement in the criminal justice system.
The FSW will then advocate for an alternative to detention, an alternative to incarceration, or lesser sentence, based on mitigating factors. The FSW will evaluate clients and recommend a treatment program. The FSW will fill out necessary paperwork and provide supporting documents to facilitate a client’s interview with a program and/or to assure a client’s acceptance into a program. The FSW educates the client about treatment options, offers crisis intervention, and short-term counseling. The FSW provides essential information to attorneys about clients.

The staff will collaborate with the Decarceration Project’s attorneys to connect clients with community resources and promote policies and practices that reduce incarceration rates. The Early Intervention Mitigation Specialists will provide advocacy, support, and case management to cis and transgender [male identifying] clients that are represented by the Decarceration attorneys. The Mitigation Specialists will also work closely with correctional facilities, community organizations, legal entities, and families to facilitate successful release, during and after Supreme Court arraignments. The Mitigation Specialists will also support CDP’s policy advocacy by providing social work expertise and providing other technical social work support and expertise to Law Reform as needed.
The Decarceration Project secures the release of clients who are detained via bail or other pretrial detention methods in New York City and connects them to alternatives to detention/incarceration. The Decarceration Project offers early intervention, trial and appellate bail advocacy, structuralized social services, and comprehensive support. Service connections include mental health services, substance abuse services, housing and employment resources, and a host of other community support services. The Decarceration Project fights to make pre-trial detention the exception, not the rule, by working alongside CDP attorneys and social workers in all five boroughs to provide litigation support on bail applications and appeals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Complete treatment plans and bail packages to advocate for the release of individuals who are being detained pretrial in New York City jailsInterview clients, performing a thorough bio-psycho-social assessment. The Civil Practice’s Housing Justice Program engages in both eviction defense and affirmative litigation and handles a broad range of individual tenant representation at the trial and appellate levels, including holdovers, nonpayment proceedings, HPs, Housing Authority administrative hearings, and state and federal court appeals.
The Supervising Attorney, in conjunction with the Director of Housing and the supervisory team, will be responsible for the smooth and effective day-to-day operations of the Housing Justice Program in the assigned office. The Supervising Attorney reports to the Borough Director of Housing and Attorney-in-Charge and will be primarily responsible for supervising a team of Housing Attorneys and Paralegal Casehandlers. They will also work in conjunction with our Housing-related Government Benefits Supervising Attorney to oversee the Government Benefits work of Housing Attorneys and Paralegal Casehandlers in the Brooklyn Neighborhood Office. The Government Benefits work may include but is not limited to representation, legal assistance, legal advocacy and education to clients who need income and related supports from city, state and federal programs. The Supervisor will provide support to housing advocates representing low-income tenants in housing-related matters who seek assistance relating to benefits cases, including rent arrears, grants from city agencies and charities. They will supervise housing case handlers in their work which may also include representing clients at administrative hearings and advocacy with NYC HRA and NYS OTDA to ensure they are receiving the maximum benefits to which they are entitled. They will coordinate with citywide initiatives related to all Housing and government benefits.
They will also work with other Supervisors to build their substantive knowledge and skills related to Housing and public benefits generally and rent subsidy and arrears advocacy, in particular. The Supervising Attorney will coordinate and collaborate with the other Brooklyn Housing related Government Benefits supervisor and with our Government Benefits Unit to create Practice-wide training and advocacy programming for housing and benefits advocates. The Supervising Attorney will also coordinate, mentor, and supervise staff, provide leadership, and prioritize legal issues. Salary Range: $99,444 - $163,507

Higher Education and Loan Forgiveness

The Lead Grant Revenue Accountant ensures timely and accurate reporting and recording of grant revenues and manages receivable accounting for the Society. This position requires a thorough understanding of grant revenue recognition from restricted government and private funders. The Lead Grant Revenue Accountant reports to the Accounting Manager and supports the accounting team comprised of four accountants by ensuring adherence to internal control policies and procedures and accounting best practices. This position will also work closely with other Finance Department teams including Accounts Payable, Payroll, Grants and Contracts and Financial Planning and Analysis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Grant Revenue Accounting
Responsible for monthly recording of a portfolio of grant revenue and receivables Support the Accounting Manager and Director of Accounting with refining, optimizing, and implementing internal systems and processes regarding existing grants and contracts proceduresCoordinate with the Grants and Contracts Unit regularly to assess collectability of receivablesAssist in supervising the monthly accounts receivable accrual journal entries and application of payments to the A/R ledgerPerform grant-related post-award functions, including invoice tracking, payment tracking, financial reporting, reconciliations, and year-end accrualsReview invoices and provide general ledger program codes, when appropriate, for proper accountingPrepare accurate and timely financial reports on grants for internal management purposesCoordinate with the appropriate staff within the General Accounting unit to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries to ensure timely and accurate recording of grant revenuesMaintain and review grant revenue and receivable schedules for all contracts including public and private fundsServe as an internal liaison between General Accounting, Grants and Contracts and Financial Analysis & Planning Units within the Finance team to assist with overall grant complianceEnsure that contract expenses are reflected and adjusted properly in the Financial Edge (FE) accounting system.
Audits and Ad-Hoc Projects
Collaborate with the internal finance team and external auditors to complete the Federal Single Audit process Assist with individual program audit requests, as well as the Society’s year-end auditProfessional Development and Other Duties as Assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications:
BA/BS degree required, with a focus in Finance, Accounting, or related field5+ years of related experience Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze large volumes of dataProficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software Strong understanding of General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Preferred qualifications:
