Job Summary The Facilities Division is dedicated to providing quality leadership, agile solutions, and exceptional enterprise integrated services that enables The Aerospace Corporation to achieve mission success in the rapidly changing space enterprise environment. The Facilities Construction Department is a unit within the Facilities Division responsible for general building and grounds improvement projects and major construction within the Corporation’s owned and leased building portfolio across the U.S. The Construction Project Manager (Facilities Construction Staff III/IV) manages and oversees all facets of the design, pre-construction/construction, and close-out phase of all assigned projects. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in Chantilly, VA. What You’ll Be Doing Prepares Construction Statements of Work (SOWs) for obtaining proposals from outside contractors; coordinates with in-house designers and engineers for design build SOW. Manages both project budget and schedule; monitors both project budget on a monthly basis and ensures the budget always accurately reflects the project status/ progress. Manages daily/ upcoming activities of the contractor, reviews contractor construction schedule for conformance with company standards and practices related to scheduling. Reviews drawings and specifications for conformance with company/partner organizations standards and code requirements. Makes field checks as often as necessary to determine compliance with contract documents. Reviews the process and monitors monthly payments for the contractor, architects, engineer and any other pertinent parties. Receives, reviews, and negotiate Contractor Change Order Proposal(s) to achieve fair and reasonable price in accordance with the contract terms Provide Fair Cost Estimate as required for Change Order Approval. Coordinates with Architect (in-house or consultant) for timely development of program requirements, design drawings, construction documents based on customer requirements. Oversees and reviews the work of architectural and engineering consultants for successful bidding and constructability. Manage all contractor project logs, track status, and assists in the review of Request for Information (RFIs), submittals, Change Order Proposals for proper submission/ responses; Reviews substitution submittal from contractors to ensure specifications and/or Aerospace standards are in compliance. Assists in the selection process of outside design consultants and interface as often as necessary with the customers regarding project status, project requirements, project approval and coordination with other departments. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and in various stages of the project’s life. What You Need to be Successful Minimum Requirements for the Construction Project Manager ( Facilities Construction Staff III) : Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field is required Minimum of (4) years of experience in similar or equivalent position involved in project or construction management of commercial and/or public project in excess of $10M is required Excellent grasp of theories, principles and practices related to Scheduling Experience with Construction Project Management Software Some knowledge of city building codes Ability to prioritize all tasks and projects for on-time completion Must possess strong organizational skills including maintaining all project files and record drawings Demonstrated flexibility and ability to adapt to changing organizational needs Strong written and oral communication skills; assist in written materials including correspondence, reports, and guidelines This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA., requiring 4-5 days onsite per week. What You’ll Be Doing Providing technical and strategic guidance and mentoring to the members of the Control and Dynamics section of CAD Performing spacecraft and payload control system related tasks in the following areas: concept development, trade studies, risk assessments, design analyses, simulation development, test planning, data analysis, operations support, and anomaly resolution Working with section staff, management team, and customers to coordinate technical activities, report progress, resolve technical issues, and assure project success Providing regular feedback to staff and conducting performance reviews Promoting the creation and use of new tools to sustain and advance section and department expertise Preparing written and verbal reports of the group’s activities, issues, and accomplishments for higher management, subordinates, and teaming organizations Identifying opportunities for additional, expanded, and new business. Enterprise Effects Division Description The Enterprise Effects Division (EED) drives integration of Aerospace’s strategic capabilities across the national space enterprise. The division leverages a broad array of engineering disciplines against a wide-ranging and dynamic portfolio of programs, customers, and national challenges. EED spans the capability lifecycle from concept and architecture design to performance assessment to application of space and space-enabled capabilities. Vehicle Ground Concepts Department Description The Vehicle and Ground Concepts Department (VGCD) in EED provides space vehicle and ground system preliminary/conceptual design; trade and architecture analysis, modeling, process development and leadership expertise ; and tool development in support of conceptual design activities across the space enterprise. As a member of VGCD, you will be designing innovative spacecraft and ground segment solutions to meet the most pressing mission needs of our US Space Force, Intelligence Community, NASA, NOAA, and commercial/international customers. Work Model This position is 100% onsite in either of the following locations; Chantilly, VA , Colorado Springs, CO, or El Segundo, CA . What You’ll Be Doing Leading early-stage design studies for spacecraft concepts; types of studies can include both small, individual efforts as well as larger, multidisciplinary teams of subject matter experts. Serving as a subject matter expert in spacecraft-level systems engineering to support execution of customer programs , including during design reviews and other milestones . Leading the development of capabilities utilizing AI in the concept development of spacecraft or spacecraft ground systems. Leading continuous development, maintenance, and improvement of the tools and models that are used during spacecraft concept design and analysis activities. Supporting the development of similar capabilities within VGCD for the assessment of ground segment concept design Establishing strong working relationships with government, program office, and contractor personnel as well as other members of Aerospace’s engineering group. Mentoring junior members of the department What You Need To Be Successful Minimum Requirements for Sr. Member of Technical Staff : Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in a relevant engineering or science discipline. 4 + years of relevant experience working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams with a focus on spacecraft or ground segment design A strong knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and system engineering ; some knowledge of ground segment concepts Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt quickly to change, and demonstrate initiative under pressure Excellent interpersonal and communications skills and ability to excel in a collaborative environment; proficiency with office and collaboration tools, such as MS Office. Demonstrated experience in concurrent engineering tools, processes, and methodologies Demonstrated experience using AI in systems design processes. Demonstrated ability to work independently and conduct long-term technical studies for geographically dispersed programs Occasional domestic travel Current or active TS/SSBI and ability to maintain a TS/SCI clearance . Additional Requirements for Engineering Specialist : 7 + years of relevant experience working on multi-disciplinary engineering teams with a focus on spacecraft or ground segment design A bility to assemble and lead multi-disciplinary teams and to scope work for often vague problem statements Ability to communicate technical information to various levels and types of stakeholders How You Can Stand Out It would be impressive if you have one or more of these: Advanced degree ( Master s or Ph.D.) from an accredited program in engineering or relevant engineering discipline Proficiency in commercial simulation tools/programming languages, including one or more of: MATLAB, Python, Simulink, STK, C++, SolidWorks Strong, demonstrated personal initiative to seek out work, establish relationships throughout organizations, and identify and correct issues as they arise. Experience with the Intelligence Community , DoD, and other common Aerospace customers. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
