At Terawatt, we execute humbly and with urgency to provide tailored solutions for fleets that delight our clients and support the transition of transportation.Role Description
Terawatt develops and operates AV infrastructure sites at the forefront of the energy transition. As an Energy Solutions Engineer, you will evaluate and develop innovative distributed energy solutions that directly shape how Terawatt's sites are powered, optimized, and scaled.
This role sits within our growing Solutions Engineering team and reports to our Staff Energy Solutions Engineer. You will work at the intersection of rigorous quantitative analysis and cross-functional collaboration — translating complex energy challenges into actionable, scalable solutions.
If you are deeply curious about distributed energy, thrive in fast-moving environments, and want your work to have a tangible impact on the future of clean infrastructure — Terawatt is where you build it.
Core Responsibilities
Build and maintain techno-economic models and applications to rapidly evaluate the impact of distributed energy solutions — including load management, solar PV, and battery storage — on specific projects
Partner with internal stakeholders and third-party providers to develop and integrate advanced modeling capabilities into existing tools and workflows
Drive cross-functional alignment by educating and enabling internal teams on the workflows required to incorporate energy solutions into site sourcing and development
Define product requirements and conduct deep dives into energy technologies and solutions providers — ensuring utility interconnection, jurisdictional permitting, and regulatory requirements are met
Serve as the Solutions Engineering representative in cross-functional engagements with hardware and software teams, supporting technical integration into Terawatt's technology stack and facilitating smooth handoffs to development, construction, and operations
Apply operational data and field learnings to continuously improve deployed energy solutions and inform future iterations
Contribute to white papers, industry forums, and external engagements that demonstrate Terawatt's domain expertise and leadership in deploying energy solutions to accelerate scalable EV charging for fleets
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related technical field
3–5 years of experience in energy, utilities, cleantech, or a related technical field
Foundational knowledge of the energy industry, including utility rate structures, site load profiles, and the economic modeling of distributed energy solutions
Strong modeling skills in Excel (required) and basic Python proficiency — comfortable leveraging AI tools to code and problem-solve independently
Ability to synthesize complex technical and business information into clear conclusions and actionable recommendations
Demonstrated curiosity and a solutions-oriented mindset — you see ambiguous problems as opportunities, not obstacles
Proven ability to work collaboratively across teams — proactively engaging stakeholders and subject matter experts to build alignment and shared understanding
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree (Master's) in Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related technical field
Hands-on experience with energy modeling in a professional setting — such as at an energy developer, independent power producer, utility, or strategy consultancy
Experience navigating utility interconnection processes, permitting workflows, or regulatory environments across multiple jurisdictions
