    Physical Demands

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to be at site locations both on the ground and on building roof tops, sit, stand, walk, use both hands, and reach and raise items above the head, use fingers to feel and handle, talk and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force of 75+ or more pounds.

    Work Environment

    Most work is performed externally, on-site, outdoors, with exposure to the elements of nature working under normal construction conditions. 25% of travel is required in support of this position. Approximately 5% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions. Night and weekend work may be required up to 25% of the time.

    Summary of Position

    At TEP-Fiber our Field Technicians are responsible for collecting detailed technical information about electric utility and telecommunication facilities and equipment. It is an outdoor position that requires hiking between spans of utility poles to capture data that supports outside plant engineering and various fiber-optic construction projects thought the US, Canada. TEP-Fiber will train the ideal candidates to perform all required duties. This position requires routine travel, typically involving travel from 1 to 4 weeks per month. The ideal candidate will be able to travel out of state for month-long assignments.

    Responsibilities
    Work in an outdoor environment to collect field data that supports the engineering and design of fiber optic cable facilities. This will include measurements of attachment heights, span distances, angles, etc... Submit organized, detailed data for each project that could include maps, field notes and digital images. Operate and maintain equipment that would include tablet computer, digital camera, measuring tools and Personal Protective Equipment. Anticipate potential conflicts in the proposed route and note any alternative options to reduce high make ready cost and relay conflicts back to the project manager for review. Work professionally in the field as a representative of TEP-Fiber and our customers. Communicate effectively and daily with the project management team. Work safely and independent of supervision.
    Qualifications
    High school diploma or equivalent; technical background preferred. 1 to 5 years of knowledge of telecommunications and/or electrical distribution systems is a plus. Knowledge of pole design including NESC requirements and general safety practices is a plus. Enjoy working outdoors in all types of weather and have the desire to actively participate in physically demanding work lifting 15 to 20 lbs. on a regular basis. Basic proficiency with computers including the ability to read, interpret and follow GPS maps. Ability to follow process specifications and guidelines in an extremely high-quality environment.
