Do you enjoy working with your hands, staying active, and being part of a team that creates high-quality food products? Food for Thought is looking for a production team member in the role of Assistant Cook to support our food manufacturing operation in Traverse City.
This is not a restaurant position, rather you will be working alongside our Production Lead, helping to prepare recipes, stage ingredients, support cooking and batch production, monitor product quality, and ensure products are produced safely and consistently. You'll be involved in the process of turning raw ingredients into finished specialty food products that are distributed across the country.
Our team produces specialty food products in a manufacturing environment using commercial production equipment, batch processing systems, and food safety standards.
Whether you have experience in food manufacturing, production, warehousing, agriculture, or another hands-on role, this position offers the opportunity to learn new skills, work with a great team, and play an important role in creating products people enjoy every day.
Schedule
Team members are regularly scheduled to work four 10-hour day shifts, Monday through Thursday, with Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays typically scheduled off. Occasional overtime or additional hours may be required to support production schedules and customer demand.

Prepare, measure, weigh, and organize ingredients for productionAssist with cooking, mixing, batching, and recipe preparationSet up, clean, and maintain production equipmentSupport packaging, production lines, and material handling as needed=Complete production records accurately and in real timeFollow food safety, sanitation, and quality standardsHelp with cleaning, organization, and end-of-day production readinessWork with team members across production to meet daily goals
What We're Looking For
Experience in food manufacturing, food processing, warehousing, production operations, commercial kitchens, agriculture, or related environments preferred but not requiredAbility to follow recipes, procedures, and instructions accuratelyBasic math skills for measuring and weighing ingredientsStrong attention to detail and food safety practicesDependable attendance and a team-first attitudeWillingness to learn new tasks and support different production areasBetter Process Control School (BPCS) certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification

Food for Thought is located at the Long Lake Culinary Campus (LLCC), in the former Long Lake Elementary School just west of Traverse City near Moomer's and Fresh Coast Market.
