  • Senior Building Energy Specialist

    February 25, 2025 Position: Senior Energy Analyst Visa sponsorship is not available for this position Taitem Engineering is hiring a senior-level engineer, sustainability consultant, or energy analyst with at least eight years of experience. Come lead a variety of projects relating to analysis of energy retrofits and electrification in existing buildings and new construction high-performance buildings. The successful candidate must, however, be able to meet with project stakeholders and visit project sites in the Ithaca, NY area and at other locations in New York State. Responsibilities may include Advise developer and design teams on best practices for electrification, decarbonization, and energy efficiency Review proposed project approaches to ensure they meet program or project requirements and goals Manage projects and programs, and oversee the work of others Maintain effective communication with clients and internal project teams Lead project teams to complete projects on time and on budget Review the technical work of others for accuracy Keep up to date with technology trends and changes in a rapidly evolving market Maintain an understanding of the New York State energy efficiency, decarbonization, and electrification landscape Perform project work, including site visits, construction inspections, report writing, spreadsheet analysis, whole building energy modeling, and drawing and specification review Required Skills and Knowledge Operate and make decisions independently Manage project budgets, workflow, and schedules, including a deep understanding of contractual obligations Negotiate fees and contracts, set schedule, and balance workload Knowledge of building energy systems and building science, specifically in multifamily buildings Familiarity with HVAC equipment, including heat pumps Read and understand construction drawings and specifications Review documents and deliverables and provide constructive feedback Solid understanding of the building construction process and NYS codes Train and mentor junior staff Impeccable attention to detail Proficiency in MS Windows and Office, particularly Excel Optional Qualifications Energy modeling using eQUEST, HAP, ekotrope, or WUFI Passive. Building-energy-related certification, such as CEM, BPI, CPHC, HERS Rater. Experience with Energy Star, Passive House, NYSERDA programs, Empire Green Communities, and NYS-agency-specific building standards (for example, NY HCR) Statistical computing and data management. Compensation: The recruiting range for this position is between $75,000/yr and $110,000/yr depending on the skills and experience of the applicant. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The successful candidate will focus on electrical design for both new and existing buildings as part of our MEP+S team. This position offers the opportunity to learn from Taitem's experienced staff of engineers and to mentor junior engineers as we embark on electrifying New York's building stock. Responsibilities: The electrical engineer will be responsible for working as a part of the design team to bring design projects to successful completion. Specific work includes - Design of building electrical systems including lighting, power, fire alarm, and data Perform design calculations and develop technical specifications and drawings Perform site visits to evaluate existing systems or to inspect during construction phase Coordination and communication with team members, both internal and external Act as lead electrical engineer on projects Required Skills and Qualifications: is a licensed Professional Engineer has a degree in engineering or related field; has 5 or more years of experience; has an understanding of electrical codes; has good communication skills, both speaking and writing; works well on a team; is detail-oriented; is dedicated to quality work; and has a desire to learn. Additional Skills and Qualifications: is familiar with building construction and the construction trades; and is proficient in Autodesk Revit or similar Building Information Modeling application. Compensation: The recruiting range for this position is between $40/hr and $55/hr depending on the skills and experience of the applicant. This is a full-time benefits-eligible position.
