  Role Description Sunrock is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead all engineering activities associated with its growing portfolio of distributed generation Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.  This team member reports directly to senior leadership and will oversee engineering from project origination through design, procurement, construction support, commissioning, and operational handover. The role will work closely with commercial and development teams, EPC partners, equipment suppliers, utilities, and external engineering consultants to ensure projects are technically sound, commercially viable, and execution ready.  The successful candidate will help establish engineering standards, improve project delivery processes, and provide technical leadership as Sunrock continues to scale its battery storage platform.
  
   
  Responsibilities
  Engineering Leadership Lead engineering activities across a distributed generation BESS portfolio.  Develop engineering strategies and best practices to support project execution.  Manage internal engineering resources and external engineering consultants. Project Development & Technical Due DiligenceSupport project development through technical feasibility assessments and system design.  Evaluate battery technologies, PCS, EMS, transformers, switchgear, and balance-of-plant solutions.  Lead equipment selection and technical evaluations.  Review electrical studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, grounding, and protection coordination studies.  Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout project development.Design & Delivery Manage detailed engineering through IFC design.  Coordinate engineering deliverables with EPC contractors and equipment manufacturers.  Review design packages for quality, constructability, code compliance, and cost optimization.Support procurement and vendor technical evaluations.  Provide engineering support during construction, commissioning, and energization.
  QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.  8+ years of relevant engineering experience, including experience with BESS, distributed generation, renewable energy, power systems, or related energy infrastructure projects.Strong understanding of power systems, interconnection, protection systems, and battery technologies.Familiarity with PVsyst or other PV/BESS energy and revenue modeling software or processes.Understanding of significant BESS related state and federal incentives and markets.Experience working with EPC contractors, OEMs, utilities, and independent engineering firms.Strong organizational and communication skills.  PreferredProfessional Engineer (PE) license.Familiarity with NEC, NFPA, IEEE, UL9540, UL9540A, NFPA 855, and applicable utility standards.Experience establishing engineering standards, technical processes, or best practices for a growing project portfolio.Experience managing teams with direct reports.
  Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
  The ideal candidate will be located in the Northeast Region with Eastern Time working hours. The role is ideally hybrid with regular collaboration across Sunrock's offices and project sites but can be fully remote within the United States for the right individual. Occasional travel to project sites, customer meetings, and company offices will be required.

  Sunrock Distributed Generation is a developer, long-term operator, and financier of solar and energy storage assets deployed on the properties of businesses, municipalities, and nonprofits across the USA. We are seeking a highly skilled attorney with 4-15 years of legal experience in the solar industry to support our growing distributed generation (DG) solar business. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience drafting and negotiating project agreements, tax equity facility documents, tax credit transfer documents, M&A documents, and working cross-functionally with development and finance teams. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong business acumen and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. 
  Key responsibilities for this role will include: 
  
  Drafting & Negotiation: Lead negotiations and drafting of Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contracts, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) agreements, procurement contracts, Renewable Energy Credit (REC) agreements, and other key project documents beyond diligence review. Lead negotiations for tax equity facility documents, draft and lead negotiations for tax credit transfer documents, and manage project acquisitions and sales. Project Development & Execution: Work closely with business development and execution teams, overseeing multiple projects at once and ensuring alignment with legal and regulatory requirements. Regulatory & Compliance: Advise on FERC, state PUC regulations, interconnection agreements, and renewable energy incentives (e.g., ITC, PTC, IRA incentives, RECs and state level incentives and credits). Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and Finance: Lead project acquisitions and sales, sponsor equity, tax equity, tax credit transfers, and other financing structures to facilitate transactions and growth. Risk Management & Dispute Resolution: Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks in project contracts and manage potential claims or disputes. Corporate & Commercial Law: Advise on joint ventures, corporate structuring, governance, and commercial transactions related to DG solar. 
  Qualifications4-15 years of legal experience in the solar industry, with a focus on distributed generation projects. Strong drafting and negotiation skills across PPAs, EPCs, O&M, and other key project contracts. Highly self-directed, with the ability to proactively identify and resolve legal issues, prioritize tasks efficiently, and make informed decisions with minimal supervision. Must be comfortable taking ownership of multiple projects, working autonomously, and driving matters to completion while collaborating as needed with key stakeholders. Experience managing cross-functional teams, including business development, finance, engineering, construction, and project execution. Experience with sponsor equity, tax equity, and project financing. Preferred Skills In-house counsel experience within a solar or renewable energy company, or a financial institution involved in project financing or tax equity. Big Law experience with a focus on energy projects and financing. Strong understanding of emerging regulatory and policy developments impacting DG solar. Experience handling dispute resolution and risk mitigation related to solar project agreements. 
  Position Type/Expected Hours of Work The candidate is ideally located in Boston, Baltimore, or New York City but can be flexible to be a remote role. This role may involve occasional in-person team meetings in New York and Baltimore.
