Consistently ranking among the Top 500 Design Firms in Engineering News-Record, the firm offers a deep bench of industry experts through a highly collaborative approach, delivering innovative solutions across the full project lifecycle. Operating coast to coast, Stratus® serves clients nationwide while maintaining a strategic commitment to supporting high-growth economies and building vibrant communities that foster the professional growth of its team. Serving public- and private-sector clients, the firm is dedicated to delivering the highest-quality service wherever projects take shape. Stratus® designs spaces, systems, and solutions that perform, endure, and make an impact, delivering on our promise of Better Plans. Better Places.

    The Role

Stratus is in search for a Strategic People Partner. This is not a traditional HRBP role. We're looking for someone who thinks like an operator, happened to find their way into people work, and never looked back. If you've spent time in consulting, strategy, or finance before making that turn, or if you've been in HR but always gravitated toward the business problems, this is the role for you. You'll be embedded in one of the most complex and strategically important parts of our business, working directly alongside leaders who are running fast and need a real partner, not a policy advisor. You'll own the people outcomes for your business unit: org design, talent decisions, leadership development, and the messy, high-stakes situations that don't have a playbook.

    Responsibilities

    What you'll do

Serve as the single accountable People partner for your business unit so leaders know who to call and you own the outcomeShape decisions, not justadviseon them: bring a point of view on org structure, team health, and talent beforeyou'reaskedSupport leaders through integration activity whether it is new teams, culture gaps, retention risk, and the people complexity that comes with changeRun the full employee lifecycle for your unit with discipline: performance, compensation, hiring calibration, and ERTranslate business context (pipeline, headcount, P&L pressure) into People strategy that fits the situationPartner with the People function to land programs without losing the nuance of your business unit

    Qualifications

    What we're looking for

5–7 years of experience that ideally includes a business-facing People role and something before that: consulting, ops, finance, or a startup where you wore multiple hatsExposure to M&A or integration environments is a strong plusYou think in terms of business outcomes first and people levers secondStrong enough with data to pressure-test a headcount model or read a retention trend without needing someone to translate itThe kind of judgment that knows what to escalate, what to absorb, and what to push back onAn MBA or equivalent business training is a plus, not a requirement

    What this is not

This role is not an HR position with a new title. You will not spend most of your time on process administration or policy questions. The expectation is that you're operating at the level of the business, owning outcomes, and making the calls that move it forward.

    Why it's worth it

You'll have real ownership early, a seat at the table that most People roles never get to, and visibility into parts of the business, including integration activity, that are typically off-limits to HR. If you've been waiting for a People role that respects the business instinct you've worked hard to build, this is it.

    Why you’ll love Stratus

This role is not an HR position with a new title. You will not spend most of your time on process administration or policy questions. The expectation is that you're operating at the level of the business, owning outcomes, and making the calls that move it forward.

    Why it's worth it

You'll have real ownership early, a seat at the table that most People roles never get to, and visibility into parts of the business, including integration activity, that are typically off-limits to HR. If you've been waiting for a People role that respects the business instinct you've worked hard to build, this is it.

    About Stratus

Stratus® is an integrated, multi-disciplinary engineering, architecture, interior design, and consulting firm. Across the Civic, Commercial, Industrial, Transportation, Education, Water Resources, and Government sectors, we bring precision, insight, and purpose to every project, from targeted renovations to large-scale infrastructure.
