You will provide engineering expertise on highway projects including roadway studies and design, drainage and utility systems, preliminary and final design, preparation of construction documents, cost estimates, project scheduling, and large, complex highway corridors. This position offers exciting challenges and opportunities to develop the Utah program while supporting all activities related to project scope, schedule, cost, quality, communications, and resources; mentoring younger members, assisting in transportation market business development, and participating in professional organizations and technical committees. What You Will Be Doing: Perform plan development activities for a comprehensive range of transportation design projects such as horizontal and vertical geometry, cross sections, earthwork modeling, 3D roadway modeling, quantities calculations, construction specifications, and utility coordination Assist in the development of marketing strategies for transportation project opportunities Adhere to company standards for quality assurance and quality control as defined in the quality manual Attend on-site and off-site client meetings Evaluate client needs and identify requirements Meet with client management as necessary during the term of a project to resolve issues and to obtain approvals at the project’s completion Prepare and modify reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules, cost estimates, environmental studies, and designs for projects Evaluate need for design changes and makes appropriate recommendations Submit documents to federal, state, and local agencies for code compliance review and obtain permits when required Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university At least 5 years of roadway design or relevant experience Utah Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain within 6 months Experience with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) or similar state DOT and/or local government agencies developing and delivering highway design projects Experience with Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) design methods, plan preparation, standards and specifications or similar state DOT experience Demonstrated capabilities and success in designing medium to large multi-disciplined transportation projects Working knowledge of roadway design software used to prepare engineering and design documents Knowledge of virtual collaboration tools such as ProjectWise Proven leadership, communication, and mentoring skills Preferred Qualifications: Open Road Designer (ORD) Stanley’s Approach to Flexibility While some members choose to work out of their local office on a full-time basis, we offer a hybrid schedule for eligible positions consisting of two days a week in the office, two days a week remotely, and Friday being a flexible day that can be worked either in the office or at home. What You Will Be Doing: Serve, as required, as the Project Manager, Project Lead, or Task Lead in the development of traffic and safety projects Prepare traffic impact studies, traffic signal warrant studies, intersection design studies, safety studies, bicycle planning, and technical report writing Prepare traffic signal design plans for new and modified intersections, construction sequencing, pavement marking plans, signing plans, and traffic control plans Provide technical assistance and quality control oversight on traffic engineering studies and design projects managed by other project managers and task leads Provide traffic engineering support to local and national practice areas Supervise and mentor younger engineers Represent Stanley Consultants at technical meetings with agency staff, clients, and contractors Required Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; Master of Science in Civil Engineering is a plus 4+ years of relevant experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, and/or Intelligent Transportation Systems Colorado Professional Engineer (PE) license Familiarity with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the AASHTO Green Book Proficiency with SYNCHRO, HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM, CORSIM or other traffic capacity and analysis software Membership in ITE or other professional organizations aligned with traffic engineering Preferred Qualifications: Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) or Road Safety Professional 1 (RSP1) certification Direct experience with DOT, local county, municipal, and/or developer driven transportation and traffic project A working knowledge of MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, or other advanced software packages Studies: Traffic Impact Studies Operation Analysis Design Concept Reports, Corridor Studies, and Preliminary Traffic Reports Safety Studies and Intersection Improvement Studies Safety Action Plans and Vulnerable Road User Plans Vision Zero Evaluation of Alternative Design Concepts Complete Streets, Bicycle and Pedestrian improvement studies Mobility studies Signal timing and coordination plans Design: Signal Design ITS Infrastructure Design Roadway Lighting Design Signing and Pavement Marking Design Construction Sequencing and Traffic Control Design Preparation of Project Specifications and Estimates Complete Streets, Bicycle and Pedestrian improvements design Stanley’s Approach to Flexibility While some members choose to work out of their local office on a full-time basis, we offer a hybrid schedule for eligible positions consisting of two days a week in the office, two days a week remotely, and Friday being a flexible day that can be worked either in the office or at home.
