Position Summary
The Shop Maintenance Manager is responsible for the reliability, uptime, and safety of all fabrication equipment and facility systems. This is a working leadership role that requires active involvement in troubleshooting, repairing, and improving critical shop equipment-not simply managing from an office.
The successful candidate will spend a significant amount of time on the shop floor supporting production, responding to equipment issues, and leading maintenance initiatives to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.

American (Large) Auto Feed Drill Press

Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical issues.
Reduce unplanned downtime and improve equipment reliability.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
Develop and manage preventive maintenance schedules.
Implement predictive maintenance programs where applicable.
Maintain maintenance logs, records, and work order systems.
Leadership & Team Management
Lead and coordinate maintenance technicians and outside vendors.
Prioritize maintenance activities based on production needs.
Provide hands-on support during equipment breakdowns and critical repairs.
Production Support
Coordinate closely with fabrication and shop leadership.
Respond quickly to equipment failures impacting production.
Identify bottlenecks and recommend equipment or process improvements.
Vendor & Contractor Management
Coordinate specialized repairs with outside service providers.
Manage spare parts inventory and critical replacement components.
Assist with maintenance budgeting and cost control.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
Lead Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and machine guarding programs.
Promote the safe operation of heavy industrial equipment.
Hands-On Leadership Expectations
This position is not a desk-only management role. The Shop Maintenance Manager is expected to:
Actively troubleshoot and repair equipment on a daily basis.
Spend substantial time on the shop floor supporting production operations.
Personally respond to critical equipment failures and downtime events.
Work alongside maintenance personnel and contractors when necessary.
Balance administrative responsibilities with hands-on maintenance activities.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability, and productivity.
Qualifications
7-15 years of maintenance experience in heavy fabrication, steel manufacturing, or industrial environments.
Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.
Experience with:
PLC troubleshooting (programming experience not required)
Industrial power systems, including 480V and motor controls
Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
Highly proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a hands-on shop environment.
