    Role Overview Our client, a leader in surgical robotic technology, is seeking a hands-on Quality Technician for a 6-month contract in San Jose, CA. This is a lab-based role focused on the physical execution of Verification and Validation (V&V) testing for complex electromechanical and robotic systems. We are looking for a technical "doer" who can learn the environment quickly and start contributing to lab activities within 1 to 2 weeks.

    Key Responsibilities

    Physical Test Execution: Manually execute V&V test protocols, including functional, reliability, and performance testing on robotic platforms.Lab Setup: Physically set up test fixtures, specialized equipment, and test samples according to approved procedures.Documentation: Accurately record and report test data in real-time, maintaining strict adherence to Good Documentation Practices (GDP).Hardware Support: Partner with R&D during prototype builds; assist in the physical assembly and teardown of design iterations and engineering studies.Issue Escalation: Identify, document, and immediately escalate nonconformance or unexpected test results to the engineering team.Failure Analysis: Support the hands-on investigation and root cause analysis of physical test failures.Lab Compliance: Ensure all lab activities comply with FDA and ISO 13485 standards, keeping all test records and logs audit-ready.

    Qualifications

    Experience: 5+ years in a hands-on quality, manufacturing, or test role. Medical device experience is highly preferred.Education: Associate’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience. Open to recent graduates or candidates with technical backgrounds who demonstrate strong technical aptitude.Technical Skills: Proven experience using measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and multimeters.Documentation: Strong understanding of GDP; experience with test execution in a regulated environment (FDA or ISO).Communication: Ability to clearly explain testing results and collaborate with Manufacturing and R&D teams.Aptitude: A "tinker" mindset with the ability to work around complex electromechanical systems and software-driven devices.

    Work Environment and Schedule

    Fully Onsite: This role is 100% onsite in San Jose; it is not a remote or desk-only position.Physical Requirements: Work is performed in an R&D lab (not a cleanroom) and requires standing for extended periods and manually handling robotic equipment.Overtime: Candidates must be open to working overtime as needed to meet project deadlines.

    Position Type: Full-Time (with potential for overtime)

    · 1st Shift: 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM (Monday – Friday)

    · 2nd Shift: 1:30 PM – 10:00 PM (Monday – Friday)

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented, and proactive Assembler 3 to join our team across our San Jose and Fremont locations. In this advanced role, you will be responsible for assembling complex electronic equipment, interpreting intricate engineering instructions, and utilizing precision tools to fit electronic components. Beyond your hands-on production duties, you will act as a mentor, training fellow team members on hardware machinery and electromechanical systems.

    What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

    Advanced Assembly & Production: Perform all core duties of an Assembler 1 and 2. Read, interpret, and follow complex blueprints, diagrams, engineering drawings, and bills of materials (BOM) to build electrical systems, support structures, and large chassis.Soldering & Component Integration: Perform precision soldering and micro-welding. Populate, modify, and replace components on printed circuit board assemblies.Quality Control & Testing: Inspect wiring installations, assemblies, and circuits. Test functional and product performance to ensure total conformance to engineering specifications. Verify parts dimensions and clearances using micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.Rework & Problem Solving: Identify product defects, complete proper quality documentation, and correct defects. Perform rework and repairs on assembled equipment according to engineering specification changes, utilizing critical thinking to solve complex problems.Training & Leadership: Train other team members on how to assemble, install, inspect, and troubleshoot minor electromechanical systems, as well as operate specialized hardware machines.Compliance & Material Handling: Take full ownership of ISO quality standards by verifying your work and signing off on drawing checklists. Tag components, pack finished products securely for shipment, and maintain overall customer quality standards.

    What You’ll Need (Qualifications & Skills)

    Experience: Proven experience as an Assembler 1 and 2. Deep background in electromechanical assembly, large chassis builds, and printed circuit board (PCB) modification is highly preferred.Technical Skills:Advanced capability to read and interpret complex schematics, blueprints, and written procedures.Strong proficiency with hand-held power tools (drills, screw guns), soldering equipment, and micro-welding tools.Solid competency using precision measurement instruments like micrometers, calipers, and height gauges.Experience with functional electrical testing and adjusting electrical equipment.Soft Skills: Exceptional thinking and reasoning skills to troubleshoot issues and innovate new workflow concepts.     ️ Top 3 Must-Haves

    Pump & Compressor Experience: 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting, repairing, or assembling mechanical components. We are highly prioritizing candidates with familiarity in:

    Single-Stage or Two-Stage Oil-Sealed Rotary Vane Mechanical Pumps

    Direct-Drive vs. Belt-Drive Mechanical Pumps

    Dry Scroll Pumps (or Roots Blowers)

    Experience with Air Compressors (highly transferable, as they are essentially vacuum pumps in reverse)

    Familiarity with industry manufacturers such as: Edwards, Alcatel, Leybold, Pfeiffer, Varian/Agilent, Welch, Navac, or Anest Iwata

    Tool & Machinery Proficiency: Comfort and familiarity with standard mechanical hand tools and basic shop equipment (such as belt sanders, drill presses, wire wheels, and grinders).

    Physical Capability & Safety Focus: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. assistance-free and a strict commitment to safe shop work practices.

    What a Typical Day Looks Like

    80% Tear-Down & Precision Rebuild: Using standard shop tools to disassemble vacuum pumps and mechanical units, cleaning parts meticulously, identifying worn or broken components, and reassembling them to exact manufacturer specifications.

    10% Testing & Basic Wiring: Learning to safely connect, wire, and run the rebuilt units to ensure they meet performance and safety specifications.

    10% Shop Safety & Organization: Keeping your personal workspace clean, safe, and organized.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    Equipment Repair & Rebuilding

    Disassemble various mechanical components and vacuum pumps for customer-submitted repairs.

    Meticulously clean parts and components in preparation for evaluation and service.

    Perform troubleshooting and evaluation to determine the root cause of component failures.

    Reassemble units with precision, ensuring all parts fit according to strict specifications.

    Rebuild inventory units from our shelf stock to prepare them for customer sales.

    Testing & Electrical Tasks (Training Provided)

    Learn to safely and accurately configure and wire single-phase and three-phase motors for testing (we will train you thoroughly on our safety protocols).

    Test reassembled units to ensure their operational performance meets quality standards.

    Shop Safety & Operations

    Maintain a clean, organized, and safe personal work area at all times.

    Follow strict safe work practices; utilize safety equipment such as protective masks, eye shields, and ear guards.

    Maintain a high sense of urgency regarding job completion to meet customer expectations.

    Education, Training & Experience

    Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.

    Experience Level: 3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience involving mechanical repair, pump/compressor service, or technical troubleshooting.
