    General Summary: An exempt position responsible for providing primary care to patients, including assessment, treatment, care planning, and medical care evaluation.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:
    Obtains patient consent for care and ensures patient confidentiality. Obtains and documents health history, information on chief complaint, vital signs, and health risk factors and assesses disease condition. Provides patient care based on practice guidelines, standards of care, and federal/state laws and regulations.Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers prescribed medications, and monitors and documents treatment progress and patient response. Delegates as allowed under the Nurse Practice Act. Refers to/consults with physicians, other health providers, and community resources to prevent/resolve problems or concerns. Educates patients and families about health status, health maintenance, and management of acute and chronic conditions.Documents patient assessment and intervention data using established medical record forms/automated systems and documentation practices.Participates in multidisciplinary teams to improve patient care processes and outcomes. Tracks quality assurance data and monitors for acute and chronic care management.
    Education: RN. Completion of nursing training from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

    Experience: Minimum one year of professional nursing experience. Clinic experience preferred.

    Other Requirements: Current state registered nurse license. Current CPR certificate.

    Knowledge of nursing processes; health care systems, structure, and functions; and community resources. Understanding of health care technology, equipment, and supplies. Familiarity with state law on nursing care, nurse practice guidelines, and clinic policies and procedures.Knowledge of wellness/illness, growth and development, human behavior, psychosocial factors, and alternative health care treatments.Knowledge of chart/medical record documentation requirements and federal/state laws related to release of health care information.
    Skills:

    Abilities:
    Ability to analyze options and then counsel patients and families about choices and make referrals to other providers and resources.Ability to engage clients and families in the development and implementation of a care plan.Ability to read and interpret physicians' orders and notes from other providers.Ability to calculate and administer drug dosages and injections and measure results.
    Equipment Operated: Standard nursing equipment and supplies including thermometer and syringes. May involve use of assistive devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, ventilators, pulse oximetry units, and oxygen tanks. May require use of computer.

    JOB TITLE: OR Circulator

    GENERAL DUTIES: Provides professional nursing care for patients following established standards and practices.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Operating Room Manager

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods. Occasionally lifts and carries supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires sitting for extensive periods. Able to communicate effectively with patients and families. Must be able to tolerate stress

    WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to anesthetic gases, hazardous chemicals, hospital grade cleaning solutions, sharps, blood and body fluids. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

    1. Prepares patient by pre-operative assessment and reassesses post-operatively on geriatric, pediatric and general population utilizing all available resources (physical examination, patient, significant others, medical record, other healthcare professionals, etc.) and documents assessment in the medical record.

    2. Orchestrates the Surgical Time Out prior to the surgical incision being made

    3. Assists with developing the sterile field and monitor the field continuously during the procedure

    4. Acts as circulator to the surgeon in the surgery arena, obtaining sterile items not on the field, monitoring and set up of equipment

    5. Performs surgical counts along with the scrub tech.

    6. Prepares medications for the sterile field

    7. Receives, prepares, and readies for pickup and specimens obtained during the surgery

    8. Maintains accurate record of all nursing activities performed in the surgery rooms as well as complete documentation of medication administration

    9. Assists with room turnover between cases and at the end of the day

    10. Reports any problem to the surgeon

    11. Performs technical aspects of patient care according to established policies and procedures; adapts techniques

    12. Provides education for patient and significant others (i.e., explanation of procedures, therapeutic and adverse effects of medication, drugs and food interactions, and discharge plan

    13. Recognizes obvious and subtle changes in patient's physical and mental status as well as abnormal test results, notifies supervisor and/or physician.

    14. Demonstrates the ability to initiate and direct life support measures and to perform effectively in Emergency Code.

    15. Helps to ensure that all medical and surgical supplies are maintained and available throughout the surgery center. Stocks recovery, and operating rooms as well as anesthesia supply cart.

    16. Attends required meetings and participates in committees requested.

    17. Maintains patient confidentiality.

    18. Acts as a preceptor for new employees as assigned.

    19. Demonstrates responsibility for the proper use and keeping of all controlled medications kept in the surgery center, and monitors the administration and documentation of use.

    20. Performs in scrub nurse role as needed if trained

    21. Performs all other duties as assigned by management.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATION, LICENSING:

    Graduate from an accredited school of nursing

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    1. Performs physical assessments on patients scheduled for surgery in a timely manner by utilizing all available resources (patient, significant other, medical record, other health professionals, etc.)
    2. Documents assessment on the pre-op assessment form
    3. Reports any medical problems to anesthesia, and or preop/PACU manager
    4. Monitors results of ancillary tests ordered and reports results out of the norm to anesthesia/surgeon
    5. Make sure patients are NPO
    6. IV started prior to surgery, antibiotics are hung as ordered
    7. Assist anesthesia with blocks
    8. Ensures the site/side is marked by the physician prior to moving to the OR suite
    9. Administer preop medications and monitor for adverse reactions
    10. Charts are prepared for the next day
    11. Maintains patient confidentiality, patient dignity, patient rights, and serves as a patient advocate at all times.
    12. Provides education for the patient and family regarding procedure, medication, et.

    20. Assessments made of surgical site for swelling, redness, drainage, bleeding, or any other problems
    21. Surgical post-operative calls made
    22. Performs surgical chart audits
    23. Maintains patient confidentiality, patient dignity, patient rights, and serves as a patient advocate at all times.
    24. Provides education for the patient and family regarding procedure, medication, et.
    25. Performs all other duties assigned by the preop/PACU Manager.
