    POSITION SUMMARY

    CORE FUNCTIONS
    1. To include the following: 1) specimen collection 2) general laboratory specimen processing or 3) referral laboratory processing. In doing so, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity by using appropriate techniques for all age criteria as required. In IOP locations, will manage client relationship within Compliance regulations to ensure that their needs are met and Sonora Quests' business objectives are satisfied.

    2. Enters and verifies patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, appropriate clinical information, and all other pertinent data found on requisitions and computer-generated orders as required for processing and billing. Verifies accuracy of entered information. Verifies appropriateness of specimens received. Aliquots and labels specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices, delivers specimens to the technical area in a timely manner and / or performs initial processing and preparation of samples for transport. May assist in monitoring workflow and training of new employees.

    3. Focuses on quality by assuring that all work performed is accurate and complete. Completes documents legibly and accurately per site protocol. Follows established methods and practices. Maintains familiarity with departmental procedures. Uses appropriate documentation to record communications. Initiates computer generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring. Meets departmental standards for productivity and quality as currently defined. Actively participates and provides input to dept/system via committees or Six Sigma teams. Maintains acceptable specimen rejection rates and meets the departmental standards for productivity and quality as currently defined.

    4. Participates in departmental financial responsibilities through the appropriate use of supplies and materials. Avoids excessive waste. Participates in department initiatives to reduce costs and improve service. Basic knowledge of billing. Commitment to error free work environment.

    5. Communicates courteously and professionally with internal and external customers. Interacts with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service.     POSITION SUMMARY:
    This position will receive and triage tissue and cytology specimens and provide necessary support functions; assist with frozen sections, bone marrows and fine needles; provides clerical support and maintains equipment.

    CORE FUNCTIONS:
    1. Receives, accessions and labels specimens and corresponding paperwork, assuring proper identification and specimen integrity. Documents any problems utilizing proper protocol. Performs required computer and clerical functions for all surgical and cytology (as required) specimens. Assists pathologists or pathologist assistants with set-up functions, including printing cassettes. Prepares containers and cassettes for shipment to appropriate processing site, placing in appropriate transport coolers with accompanying paperwork and proper routing slip.

    2. Assists with frozen sections by operating a cryostat utilizing correct settings, temperatures, alignments and knife angles to insure optimum sectioning. Accessions, processes, cuts and stains fresh samples for frozen section diagnosis. Places call to appropriate physicians so pathologist may give results. Properly stamps and records all specimens for Turn Around Time documentation process. Transfers tissue to the corresponding cassette and places in formalin for permanent processing. Handles frozen section permanent specimens as directed in .

    3. Assists with autopsies by ensuring all required supplies (including restocking) are available in morgue. Reviews paperwork and documentation ensuring it is properly completed prior to autopsy. Accessions autopsy case and prepares cassettes and containers.

    4. Assists with procedures as directed, i.e. fine needle aspirations, bone marrows, following site procedures and utilizing the skills required for accessioning, labeling and preparing for transport.

    5. Provides clerical assistance to include triaging of phone calls to the appropriate pathologist or staff member. Effectively trouble shoots and appropriately documents all problems relating to specimens and Surgical Pathology procedures.

    6. Maintains all equipment, staining protocols, slide and block filing systems, retained tissue specimens and other materials removed in surgery. Fills out all maintenance sheets on a routine basis as directed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Education: High school diploma or equivalent.6 months previous medical laboratory experience in specimen handling skills.Requires good communication, comprehension and typing skills.possess a significant understanding and knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the Pathology field.Evidence of increasing responsibility in personnel interaction and organizational skills required.Soft skills include oral/written communication skills, analytical/strategic skills, ability to utilize necessary computer programs including Word and Excel; must possess the ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

    POSITION SUMMARY
    This position is responsible for a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge to department testing, clinical relevance, and complex problem-solving skills. This position serves as a department resource and is responsible for assisting with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agency and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA).

    Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

    CORE FUNCTIONS
    1. Performs all duties of MLT/MLS duties as defined by the department, at a high level of competency. Responsible for operational leadership and workflow oversight to the section/shift. Integrates comprehensive technical knowledge and clinical relevance into daily activity for the department. Responsible for complex problem solving of technical, computer, interdepartmental and quality issues. Under the direction of the Supervisor and/or Technical Director, responsible for implementation of system technical initiatives in their area of responsibility. Provides onsite supervision (determines schedules, manage day to day workflow and give input into an assessment or disciplinary action) in the absence of section supervisor.

    2. Focuses on quality by reviewing records and assuring performance of all quality control and assurance procedures. Ensures that quality control and instrumentation maintenance records are kept and documentation meets standards of accrediting and licensing agencies. Assists the Supervisor, Administrative and Technical Directors, and Technical Specialist, in the implementation of new QC/QA polices and continuous quality improvement programs in accordance with the Quality System. Active in department and LSA/SQL System quality assurance activities. Monitors and ensures compliance with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements for the laboratory. Actively participates in preparation for on-site accrediting process.

    3. Monitors, recognizes opportunities for improvement, and participates in improving the financial performance of the department and the SQL/LSA System to decrease costs, increase productivity, and improve service. Monitors inventory and brings related issues forward for prompt resolution. Assists with cost analysis models.

    4. Assists with basic personnel oversight including participation in selection, training, developing, and providing coaching under the direction of the Supervisor or appropriate Director. Assists in new employee orientation, training and competency. Provides input for competency and annual assessments for employees in appropriate time frames. Actively involved in implementing and ensuring staff completion of competency program requirements. Self-directed and motivated to seek out opportunities to contribute to projects to help the department. Coordinates and is active in at least two special projects per year within the department or SQL/LSA System, along with other miscellaneous department duties.

    5. Serves as a resource communication liaison for on-site and System issues. Provides access to other System resources when appropriate. Works closely with on-site management to integrate the area into other activities on-site. Interacts with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service. Demonstrates preceptor and coaching skills and promotes a constructive environment that encourages learning and development. Demonstrates appropriate verbal and written skills.

    Technical Coordinator II:
    Bachelor's Degree in medical laboratory science/medical technology, ORBachelor's degree in chemical or biological science (transcripts may be reviewed to determine eligibility) AND certification (MLS or categorical).Two (2) years' experience in nonwaived testing in the designated specialty/sub-specialty area.Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation) or other nationally recognized credentialing agency for review to determine eligibility.For certain specialty disciplines ONLY (Toxicology, HLA, HCTT, etc.) where no certification is available from a certifying agency, a bachelor's degree with four (4) years of experience in that discipline is required.

This position serves as a department resource and is responsible for assisting with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agency and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA '88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). May be responsible for the collection, receipt, and processing of biological specimens into the laboratory.

    Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.

    CORE FUNCTIONS
    1. Performs testing in an accurate and timely manner according to established policies and performance standards with a knowledge level determined for that testing. Responsible for startup, calibration and accuracy of procedures and instrumentation. Actively participates in problem solving activities within the department, using advanced level of decision-making skills. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and application of all computer systems used in the department. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and application of theory and clinical relevance testing. Assists in ensuring compliance with accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements. Demonstrates ability to assume lead responsibility in absence of on-site departmental leadership personnel.

    2. Recognizes, ensures validity, and assists in monitoring abnormal patient and/or QC results of testing. Ensures accuracy of test results. Participates in detecting and documenting occurrences that deviate from defined procedures. Recognizes need and participates in department and LSA/SQL System process improvement and quality assurance activities, including assisting with monitoring of department indicators of productivity and quality.

    3. Monitors and controls inventory and assists in providing financial data for the department. Active participation on process improvements in financial performance to decrease costs, improve productivity and improve service.

    4. Participates in contributions to additional department/System projects. Active in training of department employees. Actively participates on at least one committee or team or is involved in at least one special project identified with department management. Exhibits awareness of medical/legal consequences of professional actions. May assist in new employee orientation, training and competency. Provides input for competency and annual assessments for employees in appropriate time frames. Completes training module for newly hired/transferred personnel. Note: Unless the employee meets the minimum qualifications defined by CAP for a technical consultant, the employee may not oversee competency assessment.

    5. Acts as a department resource by participating in providing educational information to internal and external customers. Demonstrated advanced level of effective verbal and written communication skills. Attendance and participation at staff meetings. Demonstrates preceptor and coaching skills and promotes a constructive environment that encourages learning and development.

    6. May process and/or prepare patient samples as required to include the following: 1) specimen collection 2) general laboratory specimen processing and 3) referral laboratory processing. In doing so, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree in medical laboratory science/medical technology, ORBachelor's degree in chemical or biological science (transcripts may be reviewed to determine eligibility) AND certification (MLS or categorical).Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation) or other nationally recognized credentialing agency for review to determine eligibility.For certain specialty disciplines ONLY (Toxicology, HLA, HCTT, etc.) where no certification is available from a certifying agency, a bachelor's degree with one year of experience in that discipline is required.Demonstrated competency in phlebotomy in departments where applicable.

    POSITION SUMMARY
    This position provides support for the Genetics/Genomics Division through a wide range of processes including genetics specimen accessioning, client services and laboratory procedures. This position interacts daily with physicians, pathologists, clients, and employees and requires the ability to prioritize and multi-task a wide range of processes.

    CORE FUNCTIONS

    1. Follows established procedures for accessioning specimens for genetic testing. Review's patient and test information for accuracy and suitability using knowledge of specimen requirements, insurance prior authorizations and clinical information for genetic testing. Monitors and follows through on test addition communications ensuring appropriate information and approvals are received.

    2. Follows established procedures as assigned in the wet laboratory, such as equipment operation and maintenance, slide preparation/staining and reagent preparation. Receives and stores supplies. Performs laboratory assistant duties such as biohazardous waste disposal, slide cleaning and instrument/glassware preparation.

    3. Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing with internal and external clients regarding laboratory test availability, test results and specimen requirements using available resources. Responsible for incoming and outgoing phone calls, fielding questions and requests from and to clients. Covers administrative duties as needed. Interacts with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and a focus on customer service in providing timely laboratory information.

    4. Documents processes, quality control and equipment maintenance/functions clearly. Ensures patient identity is correct and test information is accurate. Identifies, documents, and communicates problems as appropriate. Requests information and escalates issues as necessary. Proactively completes mandatory training, procedure review, competency assessments and continuing education assignments.

    5. Uses time effectively by consistently meeting productivity goals, beginning work promptly, minimizing wasted time and observing department rules regarding breaks, lunch periods and attendance. Identifies opportunities for improvements in quality, supply cost savings and process efficiency. Monitors and controls inventory to effectively minimize waste.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
