As an Interior Designer III, you’ll lead the design and execution of interior environments across all phases of a project—from early programming through construction—while maintaining design integrity, technical quality, and regulatory compliance.
This role is ideal for an experienced designer ready to take ownership of complex projects, guide junior staff, and contribute to the continued advancement of SMRT’s interiors practice.
What You’ll Do:
Lead interior design efforts from concept through construction documentationServe as lead interior designer on complex projects with minimal oversightConduct programming interviews and client visioning sessionsDevelop comprehensive interior design concepts, including space planning, finishes, FF&E, and branding integrationOversee the preparation of drawings, specifications, renderings, and FF&E packagesCoordinate closely with architectural teams, engineers, consultants, and vendorsReview and approve shop drawings, submittals, and specificationsParticipate in and lead client meetings, clearly presenting design rationale and solutionsConduct site visits to verify field conditions and evaluate design implementationSupport project budgeting, scheduling, and resource planning for interior scopesMentor junior designers through guidance, feedback, and knowledge sharingContribute to marketing and business development efforts, including proposals and visual contentIntegrate sustainable design principles and support LEED, WELL, or similar initiativesStay current with design trends, materials, and technologies while maintaining required continuing educationWhat Makes SMRT Unique:

At SMRT, interior design is an integral part of how we solve complex problems through the built environment. As an Interior Designer II, you’ll contribute to the planning, design, and documentation of interior environments across a wide range of project types. You’ll work alongside architects, engineers, senior interior designers, and clients to create spaces that are functional, well-coordinated, and thoughtfully detailed.
This role offers increasing independence and responsibility while still providing mentorship and support. You’ll be involved in every phase of design—from concept through construction—developing interiors that align with project goals, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
What You’ll Do:
Contribute to interior design development across all project phasesDevelop space plans, finish palettes, and FF&E concepts under the guidance of senior designersParticipate in schematic design, design development, and construction documentationPrepare drawings, specifications, and presentation materials in alignment with firm standardsCoordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, and vendors to maintain design intentConduct site visits for field verification, existing conditions documentation, and punch listsReview shop drawings and submittals in support of construction administrationEnsure design solutions comply with applicable codes, ADA requirements, and firm standardsSupport client meetings and assist with presenting design solutionsManage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and qualityMentor and support junior designers as appropriateStay current with emerging trends, materials, and technologies in interior designWhat Makes SMRT Unique:
