    What you'll do

    SimpliSafe's Enterprise Information Systems team is on a mission to improve how our customers learn about our product, interact with our website throughout the sales and fulfillment funnel, and quickly receive their home security system to meet our company mission. From informing our customers about our product, providing a seamless checkout experience, and delivering that product to their door, our team is focused on delivering the best experience for our customers built on a platform focused on testability and reliability.

    As a Software Engineer II within the Enterprise Information Systems team, you'll help shape the future of our e-commerce codebase by focusing on developer experience and long-term engineering vision. You'll also provide input to process and workflow improvements with our business partners and architect solutions across multiple platforms and services that directly impact the day to day operations of our e-commerce, operations, and customer service teams by:

    The target annual base pay range for this role is $93,800 to $137,600.

    This target annual base pay range represents our good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay for this role. We carefully tailor individual compensation packages, including base pay, taking into consideration employees' job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and other relevant business factors.

    SimpliSafe's Device Cloud Services team is on a mission to level up the cloud-based systems that empower customers to interact with their home security systems from anywhere in the world. We're looking for a motivated Software Engineer II to design, develop, maintain and own software solutions.     Responsibilities

    Collaborate with UX designers and researchers, and translate their designs into high-quality, well-architected applications.Develop and maintain testing approaches to ensure that our tools and services are maintainable and continue to perform at their peak into he future.Work with backend engineers to design fit-for-purpose APIs to power the experiences that you're building.

    Requirements

    You should have experience working solo on complete features as part of a larger product, or taking on small products/projects entirely on their own.     What You'll Do


    As a Staff Embedded Software Engineer specializing in Wireless Networking, you will be a focused on the Systems Engineering task of optimizing SimpliSafe's Wireless communications systems to optimize performance, resilience and power. You will be a critical contributor to our product development, focusing on the intricate world of IoT device connectivity. This role demands a profound understanding of not only wireless radio and communication stacks but also the entire networking stack, from the physical layer up to the application. You will be responsible for debugging complex issues and meticulously optimizing every layer of the network stack to achieve unparalleled performance, reliability, and power efficiency in our cutting-edge IoT and camera devices.

    This is a hands-on role where you will dive deep into firmware, analyze network traffic, and collaborate closely with hardware, software, QA and cloud teams to deliver robust and highly optimized wireless solutions.

    Responsibilities:

    Full Communications Stack Network Debugging & Optimization: Diagnose and resolve complex network connectivity, throughput, latency, and reliability issues across the entire networking stack, from the wireless radio (PHY/MAC layers) through TCP/IP and up to the application layer on embedded IoT devices.Protocol Implementation & Tuning: Implement, port, and optimize low power wireless (802.11, HaLow, Thread) and TCP/IP protocols to meet specific performance, power, and memory constraints of embedded systems.Performance Analysis: Conduct in-depth performance analysis of wireless and networking stacks, identifying bottlenecks and proposing innovative solutions for optimization (e.g., retransmission strategies, buffer management, concurrency, power management, scheduling).Root Cause Analysis: Perform detailed root cause analysis of intermittent and hard-to-reproduce networking issues using advanced debugging techniques and tools.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with hardware engineers to characterize RF performance, integrate drivers, and troubleshoot hardware-firmware interactions.     Required Skills & Experience:

    Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.5+ years of experience in embedded firmware development with a strong focus on wireless networking.Expert-level proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.Deep understanding of the entire TCP/IP networking stack (Layers 2-7), including Ethernet, IP, TCP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, Thread, etc.Extensive experience with WiFi (802.11) protocols, including MAC layer operations, roaming, power saving modes, and coexistence.Hands-on experience with embedded operating systems including FreeRTOS and Linux.
