    Membership Account Specialist II: Under general supervision, the Membership Account Specialist II compiles processes and maintains accurate membership and dues records and information. The Membership Account Specialist II is the next higher promotional level position in the alternately staffed class of Membership Database Specialist /Sr. Membership Database Specialist. It is intended to be a way for people to gain experience to be able to promote to Sr. Membership Database Clerk, upon evaluation of skillset or when a position is open and while working full time. Processes billing, audit, maintain and produce membership lists and labels as requested by various staff. Non-supervisory position. May occasionally supervise work of rank-and-file volunteers.


    RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties listed are required but not limited to and may or may not be continuously performed or ongoing at any specific time:

    Membership Account Specialist II performs all the duties and knowledge of the Membership Account Specialist I with a higher-level skillset focused on membership and supporting the organizing work of the Union.MAS II works at times, directly with the Internal Organizer, and/or Coordinator or Director on developing campaign support programs directly related to membership accounts and processing membership and lists for daily organizing work, including but not limited to analyzing data for organizing campaigns to support the field.Compile, process, maintain and update membership application records, revocations, terminations, dues deductions, adjustments and various other types of information on-line and maintain applicable hard copy information.Audit and reconcile dues as per Local 521 various contracts - Update Unionware and run reports/queries.Maintain and update on-line mailing and membership lists; process Steward assessments and update information.Analyze inconsistencies in membership status and dues/fees deduction, including: a) identifying problems; b) researching data within the office; c) calling jurisdiction/employer, employees or other sources; and, d) follow through by reporting to supervisor or following appropriate procedures by making routine demands of the Employer.Communicate, follow up with employers, demand reports, payment status and improvement on internal control. Alerts supervisor to problems timely.May assist in operating bulk-mail.Overtime will occasionally required.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Advanced office practices and procedures; advanced data processing, use of computer, IO- key/calculator and familiar with any new innovative tools for membership database tool.Perform effectively under pressure and with interruptions, with limited supervision.Learn the tasks and procedures of the lower-level assignment for the accountant position.Learn quickly specific operations within the office.Meet and deal tactfully and courteously with members, vendors and others to receive and import information.Perform research on membership related tasks and/or assignments. Ability to integrate and adopt new tools and programs that will support membership work.Ability to lead the project and assignment.Three (3) years' experience in Membership Account duties and/or database or the equivalent in business college level database analysis.Database experience is required.

    RESPONSIBILITIES: All duties listed are required but not limited to and may or may not be continuously performed or ongoing at any specific time.
    Identify, recruit, train, develop stewards, officers, and leaders.
    Lead and assist in developing plans for worksite campaigns for specific issues including public budget issues, contract negotiations, safety, etc.
    Create or assist members in creating communication systems; write and edit leaflets, proposals, newsletters, etc.
    Negotiate or assist in contract negotiations, from proposals through strike preparation.
    Monitor stewards and officers in their representational duties, including grievances and disciplinary appeals. Follow through where necessary.
    Meet timelines and procedures related to labor contracts, union bylaws, and policies.
    Encourage participation in political and lobbying activities. Help members hold elected officials accountable.
    Participate in and learn to lead residual organizing campaigns, and recruit members.
    Lead staff members or community-based committees; serve as a spokesperson.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    Willingness to travel frequently and/or for extended period of time within the locals jurisdiction, based on work assignments.
    Willingness to work long and irregular hours, often including nights and weekends.
    A strong commitment to social and economic justice and the commitment to organize the unorganized through the labor movement
    At least one year of experience as a full-time external organizer or equivalent community or rank and file member organizing experience.

    OVERVIEW

    The Finance Director is a senior management position responsible for overseeing finance, accounting, and the dues/membership system of the union. This role supervises a staff of eight and works with other departments to ensure the union's financial practices and member data reflect SEIU Local 521s mission and goals, and comply with local, state and federal regulations.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Manage all financial operations of the union, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll, budgeting, and reporting and member management.In consultation with the senior leadership team, develop, manage and report on the unions annual budget.Ensure that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and union policies.Coordinate and refine member data processing systems and procedures.Produce accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, budget documents, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, for union leadership and members.Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures for the union, and ensure they are followed by staff and members.Provide financial guidance to the union's leadership team, including the President, Treasurer, and Executive Board.Manage the union's investments, including monitoring investment performance and ensuring compliance with investment policies.Oversee the union's audit process, including managing the relationship with the independent auditor, providing documentation, and ensuring that audit findings are addressed.Collaborate across multiple departments throughout the organization and complete cross-functional projects.Hire, train, and effectively manage staff.Work with external vendors and service providers, such as banks, insurance providers, and accounting firms, to ensure that the union's financial needs are met.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field. Experience in lieu of degree is acceptable.8-10+ years of experience in financial management, budgeting and forecasting, preferably in a union or non-profit organization.A demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of SEIU.Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and experience with financial software and systems.Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve financial issues as well as develop creative solutions.Experience building and leading teams and developing staff.Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.Must live within commuting distance to the San Jose office.

    PREFERENCES

    Experience in overseeing payroll and in ERP implementations.Experience in a membership-based organization.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    At times, hours can be long and irregular; occasional travel some with overnight stays. Increased onsite presence required during training, eventually transitioning to onsite as needed.

    Salary commensurate with experience within a range of $148,860.33-$164,088.23. annually which includes a housing stipend.

    Political Directorworks under direction of the Chief of Organizing.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
