Role summary
The Senior Architect, Toshiba POS will lead the architecture and technical strategy for next-generation retail point-of-sale solutions, focusing on Toshiba POS platforms across terminal, self-checkout, and mobile POS environments. This role combines deep technical leadership with hands-on design and development expertise in Java, microservice architecture, React, and AI, driving the creation of scalable, modern greenfield applications that enhance retail experiences.
Key responsibilities
• Define and own the end-to-end technical architecture for Toshiba POS solutions, including terminal, self-checkout, and mobile POS channels.
• Lead design, integration, and implementation of Java-based services and microservice architecture patterns.
• Drive front-end architecture and user experience delivery using React for customer-facing and associate-facing applications.
• Architect and guide greenfield application development, establishing solution structure, standards, and technical direction.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions.
• Review architecture, code, and integration patterns to ensure performance, security, maintainability, and modernization goals.
• Explore and apply AI technologies to improve operational efficiency, user experience, automation, and decision-making within retail POS systems.
• Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex platform issues across store systems and integrations.
• Mentor engineers and technical leads, elevating architectural maturity and best practices across teams.
• Lead modernization efforts and continuous improvement initiatives within retail and store technology ecosystems.
Required skills and experience
• Strong experience with Toshiba POS platforms.
• Deep knowledge of terminal POS, self-checkout, and mobile POS solutions.
• Advanced hands-on expertise in Java development and architecture.
• Proven experience designing and delivering microservice architecture solutions.
• Hands-on experience with React for modern front-end development.
• Demonstrated success building greenfield applications from concept through implementation.
• Familiarity with AI concepts and practical applications in enterprise retail technology.
• Strong understanding of system integration, scalability, performance, and security.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and technical leadership skills.
Preferred qualifications
• Experience architecting large-scale retail or store technology ecosystems.
• Background in POS modernization, cloud-enabled services, or omnichannel retail platforms.
• Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams through complex transformation programs.
• Ability to balance strategic architecture with pragmatic implementation guidance.
• Exposure to payment, store integration, or retail hardware ecosystems.
• Experience with API-driven platform design and enterprise integration patterns.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development or AI-enhanced retail operations.
