Join SAVARD Personnel Group - where your skills are valued!We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to lead our in-house maintenance operations. This role is responsible for overseeing all maintenance and repair activities, managing shop personnel, coordinating parts and inventory, and ensuring maximum equipment uptime. This is a leadership position requiring both technical expertise and strong organizational skills.
Key ResponsibilitiesOversee daily shop operations and maintenance activities for all heavy equipmentSupervise, train, and manage shop mechanics and support staffDiagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues when neededPlan and prioritize repairs to minimize equipment downtime and support operationsImplement and manage preventative maintenance programsCreate, review, and approve parts requisitions and ensure accurate ordering of parts and materialsManage parts inventory levels, vendors, and purchasing processesTrack and control maintenance costs, budgets, and repair timelinesMaintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and reportingCoordinate with operations teams to schedule repairs and equipment availabilityEnsure all equipment meets safety and compliance standardsEnforce shop safety policies and OSHA regulationsMaintain a clean, organized, and efficient shop environmentEquipment ManagedLoadersExcavatorsCranesDozersForkliftsSkid steersTrucks and trailersOther diesel-powered heavy machineryRequirements5+ years of experience in heavy equipment or diesel mechanics2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role (preferred)Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical systemsProven ability to manage a maintenance shop or teamExperience with budgeting, cost tracking, and vendor managementValid driver’s license requiredSkills & AbilitiesStrong leadership and team management skillsAdvanced troubleshooting and diagnostic abilityStrong organizational and time management skillsProficiency in computer systems required, including:Creating and approving parts requisitionsTracking work orders, inventory, and repair costsAbility to source and identify correct parts using manuals and digital systemsStrong communication skills with both field and management teamsAbility to work under pressure and make decisions quicklyDetail-oriented with a focus on efficiency and cost controlShifts:7:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday - FridaySome weekends and overtime required
