    Role: Industrial Paint Automation Specialist / Robot Programmer


    Position Summary


    As an Industrial Paint Automation Specialist at Sapience, you will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and commissioning robotic paint systems with a strong focus on process performance, finish quality, and efficiency. This role blends robot programming, paint process engineering, and system integration to deliver high-performance automated finishing solutions.

    Key Responsibilities


    1. Paint Robot Programming & Process Development


    Develop and optimize robot programs specifically for spray painting and coating applicationsProgram paint paths including:
    Gun orientation and distance control
    Overlap strategies and pattern control
    Edge coverage and complex geometry handling
    Configure and tune:
    Atomization parameters
    Flow rates and pressure settings
    Electrostatic settings (if applicable)
    Optimize for:
    Transfer efficiency
    Film build consistency
    Cycle time vs quality balance
    2. Paint Process Engineering


    Develop and validate paint processes including:
    Spray patterns and coverage strategies
    Coating thickness targets
    Multi-pass and multi-layer applications
    Conduct spray trials and document resultsTroubleshoot defects such as:
    Runs, sags, dry spray, orange peel, poor adhesion
    Define and document process recipes and standards3. System Integration (Paint + Controls + Fluid Delivery)


    Integrate robots with:
    Paint delivery systems (pumps, regulators, color change systems)
    PLCs and HMIs
    Safety systems and interlocks
    Work closely with Controls Engineers to:
    Map I/O and process signals
    Implement recipe management
    Enable operator adjustments via HMI
    4. Simulation, Layout, and Tooling Support


    Utilize robot simulation tools to:
    Validate reach and coverage
    Optimize robot placement and cycle time
    Collaborate with mechanical engineering on:
    EOAT (spray guns, bell applicators, brackets)
    Fixture and part presentation design
    Validate accessibility for maintenance and cleaning5. Testing, Commissioning & Optimization


    Lead and execute:
    Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
    Spray trials and validation runs
    Commission systems on-site including:
    Final process tuning
    Debugging and optimization
    Serve as technical lead for paint process performance at customer sites6. Documentation & Standards Development


    Develop:
    Paint process setup sheets
    Spray parameter documentation
    Robot program standards for paint applications
    Support internal standardization efforts for:
    Paint programming methods
    Process validation procedures
    7. Customer Training & Support


    Train customers on:
    Robot operation for paint systems
    Process adjustments and troubleshooting
    Provide guidance on:
    Maintenance of paint equipment
    Best practices for consistent coating quality
    Qualifications


    Required


    Experience with industrial robot programming (FANUC preferred, especially paint platforms)Hands-on experience with automated paint or coating systemsStrong understanding of:
    Spray application fundamentals
    Fluid delivery systems
    Coating quality requirements
    Familiarity with PLC-controlled systems and industrial automation environmentsAbility to troubleshoot both robot motion and process-related issuesPreferred

    The Senior Machine Builder - Electrician is a key role at Sapience with a strong compensation package. It is a role for people that have past experience performing electrical build, debug, and installation of automation equipment or industrial machinery. In this role, you will be the lead person on projects and will also work with other machine builders and engineers for the system build and test.

    Role and Responsibilities: Senior Machine Builder Electrician

    Executing the installation, debugging, and production launch of the robot systems equipment during the pre-build at Sapience and the site installation. 

    o   Assemble, debug, and test robot systems including the electrical and pneumatic elements of the system. 

    o   Build control panels and power distribution panels from electrical prints. 

    o   Install and commission robot systems and other automation equipment in customer facilities. 

    o   Coordinate with other engineers involved in the project such as PLC Programmers, Robot programmers and Project Managers. 

    o   Perform electrical inspection and assembly approval of equipment built by others

    o   For larger projects, coordinate the work of other electrical machine builders or contract electricians for the overall build

    o   Have the opportunity to work on a broader related area such as adjust existing robot programs or PLC programs ( this is optional, and training will be provided) 

     Required Skills

    o   Using electrical and mechanical prints and manuals to assemble equipment 

    o   Debugging electrical and pneumatic systems 

    o   Thorough knowledge of all electrical safety guidelines and procedures

    Role: Automation Controls Engineer

    Responsibilities:
    Openings exist for roles in either PLC Programming, Electrical System Design, or a combined
    position involving both functions on projects.
    PLC / Software Programming
    Design, develop, and implement PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) programs to control
    robot systems and other automated systems.
    Program peripheral devices such as vision system, RFID controllers, and automated
    inspection equipment.
    Execute the installation, debugging, and production launch of robot systems during the prebuild
    phase at Sapience and on-site installations.
    Test programs during the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) / Modular Build phase at Sapiences
    facility.
    Provide remote support to Sapience team members via remote connection.
    Proficiency with Allen Bradley PLCs or Siemens PLCs is required and experience with other
    PLCs, MES systems, or robot programming is a plus.
    Control Panel and Automation Electrical & Pneumatic System Design
    Design control panels, electrical controls, safety hardware, and pneumatic controls for robot
    systems and automation equipment such as conveyors.
    Create detailed drawings of system designs.
    Collaborate with vendors and Sapiences purchasing department to obtain quotes and
    procure necessary materials for the system.
    Oversee the panel build process to ensure compliance with specifications. Panel builds are
    done either internally at Sapience or through partner companies.
    Support engineers during system installation, testing, and debugging.
    Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or E-Plan required.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements
    Minimum of 3 years of experience in the robotics or automation industry.
    Post-high-school degree in a technical discipline.
    Strong written and spoken communication skills.
    Proficiency with PCs and Microsoft Office applications.
    Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
    Troubleshooting and debugging skills related to electrical control systems.

    Additional Notes
    Occasional travel to customer sites is required to support system installations and provide
    production support.
