The Pre-Construction Project Engineer helps shape projects after they break ground. You’ll blend hands-on administration (permits, subcontractor processes, notices, and documentation) with the technical work of cost estimating, scheduling, and design coordination, preparing detailed estimates and life-cycle analyses for building systems and supporting the estimating and preconstruction teams.
It’s an ideal entry point into preconstruction, with room to grow alongside civil, architectural, structural, and MEP teams and mentorship through Samet University. If you like solving the puzzle of how a project comes together and what it costs, this is where you start.
What You’ll Do
Prepare detailed cost estimates, quantitative surveys, and life-cycle cost analyses for building systems (mechanical, plumbing, electrical).Assist in developing CPM project schedules.Create written scopes of work and conduct thorough reviews of plans and specifications.Obtain construction-related permits from local agencies and ensure proper notices are filed and posted.Assist with subcontractor solicitation and contracting.Update project logs, status reports, and communications.Conduct field inspections and help coordinate project delivery.Support the estimating and preconstruction teams on assigned tasks, including bid preparation.Collaborate with civil, architectural, and structural teams as needed.Support energy-modeling studies and LEED-related projects as needed.What You Bring

This posting covers our early- to mid-career project delivery roles. We’ll place you based on background and strengths:
Project Coordinator — Focused on coordination and administration: documentation, communications, meeting minutes, procurement support, budgets, and serving as a point of contact for stakeholders. Typically 2–3 years in project coordination or construction administration.Project Engineer — Supports Project Managers with day-to-day operations and technical detail — tracking schedules and budgets and maintaining RFIs, submittals, change orders, and minutes. A strong entry point for early-career professionals.Project Engineer II — A mid-level role providing advanced technical and administrative support, mentoring junior engineers, handling permits and subcontractor coordination, and mastering Samet systems. Typically 3–5 years of construction experience.What You’ll Do

As a Field Engineer at Samet, you’re an emerging leader at the center of how our projects get built. Working alongside the superintendent, you help coordinate trade partners, keep the schedule honest, document progress in Procore, and hold the line on safety and quality on an active job site. Field Engineers grow into the field leaders our projects need. Levels & Experience
We hire Field Engineers at two levels and will place you based on your experience:
Field Engineer I — An early-career, on-site role supporting the superintendent’s coordination efforts. Best for candidates with a construction-related degree (or equivalent) who are eager to learn field management, safety, and quality firsthand. OSHA 30 required (or obtained shortly after hire).Field Engineer II — A more independent role for those with prior field experience who can help build and maintain CPM and look-ahead schedules, manage RFIs and submittals under supervision, lead inspections, and mentor newer Field Engineers toward the Assistant Superintendent path.What You’ll Do
Provide daily field oversight across all phases of assigned projects, keeping job site conditions safe, clean, and productive.Help develop and maintain the project CPM schedule and four-week look-ahead schedules, monitoring progress and recommending corrective actions.Document site progress thoroughly in Procore every day — progress reports, photos, and observations.Promote and advance an injury-free job site through Samet’s award-winning safety program, completing weekly safety reports and site inspections.Understand quality expectations and STOP any work that doesn’t support the project’s Quality Management Plan.Develop and submit RFIs and assist with submittal reviews to confirm compliance with project specifications.Read and interpret plans, specifications, and shop drawings to keep work properly coordinated and installed.Manage and resolve punch lists, and meet with AHJs and third-party inspectors to facilitate inspections and approvals.Engage subcontractors and suppliers daily through huddles and coordination meetings to keep the schedule on track.Review and apply Samet TSWs, owner contracts, and trade partner scopes of work to your field responsibilities.Use Bluebeam and other construction software fluently for documentation and workflows.Support the team’s safety/ERM initiatives and uphold Samet’s professional image with clients, designers, and trade partners.What You Bring

You’ll coordinate professional design services, build accurate conceptual-through-contract cost estimates, run value engineering, and manage the design and bidding process, turning ideas and budgets into buildable, fundable projects.

Levels & Experience
We hire Pre-Construction Project Managers across levels and will align scope to your experience (listed by experience range):
Pre-Con Project Manager I — Performs take-offs and conceptual-through-contract estimates, coordinates with designers, runs bidder solicitation, and supports proposals. Typically 2–4 years of related experience; estimating software (MC²/Sage) and Primavera familiarity valued.Pre-Con Project Manager II — Leads comprehensive preconstruction services end to end — negotiating professional service agreements, developing sophisticated budgets and schedules, leading sales presentations, and managing design coordination and risk. Typically 8–12 years of preconstruction, design coordination, or project management experience.Pre-Con Project Manager, Senior — Leads advanced cost estimation and value engineering, with emphasis on MEP systems, life-cycle cost analysis, and CPM scheduling, while mentoring team members. Typically 5–7 years of estimating experience; Sage Estimating and LEED accreditation preferred.What You’ll Do

As a Field Engineer at Samet, you’re an emerging leader at the center of how our projects get built. Working alongside the superintendent, you help coordinate trade partners, keep the schedule honest, document progress in Procore, and hold the line on safety and quality on an active job site. It’s hands-on, fast-moving work—and it’s where many of Samet’s best builders got their start.
Field Engineers grow into the field leaders our projects need. You’ll learn our systems, sharpen your construction knowledge through Samet University and Builders Building Builders, and build the judgment that carries you toward the Assistant Superintendent path and beyond. Levels & Experience
We hire Field Engineers at two levels and will place you based on your experience:
Field Engineer I — An early-career, on-site role supporting the superintendent’s coordination efforts. Best for candidates with a construction-related degree (or equivalent) who are eager to learn field management, safety, and quality firsthand. OSHA 30 required (or obtained shortly after hire).Field Engineer II — A more independent role for those with prior field experience who can help build and maintain CPM and look-ahead schedules, manage RFIs and submittals under supervision, lead inspections, and mentor newer Field Engineers toward the Assistant Superintendent path.What You’ll Do
Provide daily field oversight across all phases of assigned projects, keeping job site conditions safe, clean, and productive.Help develop and maintain the project CPM schedule and four-week look-ahead schedules, monitoring progress and recommending corrective actions.Document site progress thoroughly in Procore every day — progress reports, photos, and observations.Promote and advance an injury-free job site through Samet’s award-winning safety program, completing weekly safety reports and site inspections.Understand quality expectations and STOP any work that doesn’t support the project’s Quality Management Plan.Develop and submit RFIs and assist with submittal reviews to confirm compliance with project specifications.Read and interpret plans, specifications, and shop drawings to keep work properly coordinated and installed.Manage and resolve punch lists, and meet with AHJs and third-party inspectors to facilitate inspections and approvals.Engage subcontractors and suppliers daily through huddles and coordination meetings to keep the schedule on track.Review and apply Samet TSWs, owner contracts, and trade partner scopes of work to your field responsibilities.Use Bluebeam and other construction software fluently for documentation and workflows.Support the team’s safety/ERM initiatives and uphold Samet’s professional image with clients, designers, and trade partners.What You Bring
Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent field experience).OSHA 30 certification (required for all field associates; may be obtained shortly after hire).Proficiency in Bluebeam and a willingness to master Procore, P6, and other construction software.Working knowledge of plans, specifications, and construction documentation processes.Experience with RFIs, submittals, and punch lists (preferred; expected at the Field Engineer II level).Understanding of project schedules and the ability to help maintain progress.Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills, with sharp attention to detail.A demonstrated commitment to safety and an injury-free job site.Initiative, a problem-solving mindset, and a genuine passion for a career in construction management.Your own reliable transportation and an understanding that travel between sites is required.Additional Requirements
Physical Demands: A field-intensive role with regular time on active construction sites and periodic office work. Frequently required to stand, walk (including on rough or uneven surfaces), climb stairs and ladders, balance, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, drive, and wear appropriate PPE; occasionally required to sit and handle hand and/or power tools, and infrequently to crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Work Environment: An active construction site in various stages of completion, with noise and light levels ranging from low to high. Unpleasant or potentially harmful fumes may occasionally be present (proper PPE provided). Temperature varies by location and season. Frequent travel is required. Computer Skills: Working proficiency in Microsoft Office and SharePoint, with the ability to manage documentation in industry-standard construction software such as Procore and Bluebeam. Able to collaborate via Zoom or Teams and type professional correspondence.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability: Able to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions and to solve problems involving concrete variables on the job site.
Certificates and Licenses: OSHA 30 certification required. A valid driver’s license is required.
